Can foreigners who have lost unexpired work permits be re-issued in Vietnam? What is validity period of re-issued work permit in Vietnam?
I am a Canadian who is currently living and working in Vietnam, when I went out on a trip, I carelessly lost my documents including my work permit, can my work permit be re-issued? What is validity period of re-issued work permit in Vietnam? Please advise.
1. Can foreigners who have lost unexpired work permits be re-issued in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 12 of Decree 152/2020/ND-CP stipulating the case of re-grant of a work permit as follows:
1. The unexpired work permit is lost.
2. The unexpired work permit is damaged.
3. The unexpired work permit needs changes of full name, nationality, passport number, or working place thereon.
Thus, in case you lose your unexpired work permit, you will still be re-issued with a work permit in Vietnam.
2. What is validity period of re-issued work permit in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 15 of this Decree, validity period of re-issued work permit is as follows:
The validity period of the re-issued work permit shall coincide with that of the former work permit less the duration that the foreign worker has worked up to the submission date of the re-issuance application.
So, validity period of re-issued work permit is equal to the duration of your old work permit in Vietnam.
