Who can learn to drive military vehicles in Vietnam?
In Article 8 of Circular 170/2021/TT-BQP stipulates the conditions for military driving learners as follows :
Conditions for military driving learners
1. Be a soldier, defense civil servant, defense worker and employee, contract worker working in the Ministry of National Defense (for contract workers only trained to upgrade) and meet all conditions and criteria on age, working time, health, cultural level, and political qualities according to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense.
2. For learners upgrading to a military driving license, they must have the following driving time and safe driving kilometers:
a) From class B2 to class C, from class C to class D, from class D to class E: Have driving time of 03 years or more and 50,000 km of safe driving or more;
b) From class C to class Fc, Fx: Have 02 years or more driving time and 30,000 km of safe driving or more (except for cases of transitional training from class C to class Fc or Fx according to the criteria of Joint Staff);
c) From class B2 to class D, from class C to class E: Have 5 years or more driving time and 100,000 km of safe driving or more.
3. Particularly for students upgrading their military driving license to class D or class E: In addition to the provisions in Clauses 1 and 2 of this Article, they must have a secondary school diploma or higher.
Thus, subjects who can learn to drive military vehicles in Vietnam include:
- Military;
- Defense civil servants;
- Defense workers and officials;
- Contract workers working in the Ministry of National Defense (for contract workers only trained to upgrade) must meet all conditions and standards regarding age, working time, health, educational level, political qualities according to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense.

What is classification of military driving licenses in Vietnam?
Pursuant Article 6 of Circular 170/2021/TT-BQP stipulates that military driving licenses are classified as follows:
(1) Class A1 military driving license
Issued to drivers of two-wheeled motorbikes with cylinder capacity from 50 cm3 to less than 175 cm3 or engines with equivalent rated capacity.
(2) Class A2 military driving license
Issued to drivers of 2-wheeled motorbikes with a cylinder capacity of 175 cm3 or more or engines with equivalent rated capacity and vehicles specified for Class A1 Military Driving License.
(3) Class A3 military driving license
Issued to drivers of three-wheeled motorbikes and vehicles with similar structures; Types of vehicles required for Class A1 military driving licenses.
(4) Class B2 military driving license
Issued to drivers of passenger cars with up to 9 seats (including the driver's seat); trucks, including specialized cars and tractors with a tonnage of less than 3,500 kg.
(5) Class C military driving license
Issued to drivers of all types of transport vehicles, including specialized vehicles, tractors with a tonnage of 3,500 kg or more and vehicles prescribed for a class B2 military driving license.
(6) Class D military driving license
Issued to drivers of passenger cars from 10 to 30 seats (including the driver's seat) and vehicles specified for class B2, C military driving licenses.
(7) Class E military driving license
Issued to drivers of passenger cars with over 30 seats (including the driver's seat) and vehicles specified for military driving licenses of class B2, C, D.
(8) FC class military driving license
Issued to people who have a Class C military driving license to drive vehicles specified for Class C when towing trailers or weapons or military equipment in the form of trailers; Tractors pulling semi-trailers or weapons and military equipment in the form of semi-trailers.
(9) Fx class military driving license
Issued to people who have a Class C military driving license to operate tracked vehicles towing weapons and military equipment.
Note: Holders of military driving licenses of class B2, C, D, E when operating corresponding vehicles towing a trailer or weapon, military equipment in the form of trailers with a tonnage not exceeding 750 kg.
What conditions must military driving learners meet in Vietnam?
Basis Article 8 of Circular 170/2021/TT-BQP stipulates that military driving learners must ensure the following conditions after:
- Learner drivers are military personnel, defense civil servants, defense workers and officials, and contract workers working in the Ministry of National Defense.
- Must meet all conditions and standards regarding age, working time, health, cultural level, and political qualities according to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense.
In addition, learner drivers upgrading to a military driving license must have the following driving time and safe driving kilometers:
- Have 3 years or more driving time and 50,000 km of safe driving or more for the following military driving licenses:
+ From class B2 to class C
+ From class C to class D
+ From class D to class E
- Have 2 years or more driving time and 30,000 km of safe driving or more for military driving licenses from class C to class Fc, Fx
- Have 5 years or more driving time and 100,000 km of safe driving or more for the following military driving licenses:
+ From class B2 to class D
+ From class C to class E
Particularly for students upgrading their military driving licenses to class D or E: In addition to the above regulations, they must have a secondary school diploma or higher in Vietnam.
