What are the dimension, character position, number, and sign of the license plates of foreign automobiles in Vietnam?
Based on Appendix 4 issued together with Circular 79/2024/TT-BCA on the dimension, character position, number, and sign of the license plates of foreign automobiles in Vietnam:
[1] Arrangement of letters and numbers on the license plate: The license plate consists of groups of letters and numbers arranged specifically as follows:
- The first group is the symbol of the registration locality.
- The second group is the symbol of the country's name or international organization (Appendix No. 03 issued with this Circular).
- The third group is the registration series.
- The fourth group is the sequential number of the registered vehicle, comprising 02 natural numbers, from 01 to 99.
- Between the locality symbol, country symbol, registration series, and registration sequence, there is a hyphen (-).
Example: On the plate illustration H5
+ 80 is the registration locality symbol.
+ 441 is the symbol for the country, organization, or international body; 02 is the vehicle registration sequence number.
+ NG is the series for diplomatic representative vehicles, consular vehicles, and members with diplomatic identification of that body, QT is for vehicles of international organizations' representatives and members with diplomatic identification of that organization, cv is for administrative and technical staff vehicles carrying official mission identification from diplomatic, consular, international organizations, NN is for vehicles of organizations, representative offices, foreign individuals.

- Height of letters and numbers: 63 mm.
- Width of letters and numbers: 38 mm.
- Boldness of letters and numbers: 10 mm.
- Dimensions of hyphen (-): Length 14 mm; width 10 mm
- Dot (.) separating the first three digits from the last two sequential numbers: 10 mm x 10 mm.

- All lines of letters and numbers are arranged symmetrically on the plate.
- For long plates:
+ The police emblem is imprinted above the hyphen, the top edge of the emblem aligns with the top edge of the line of letters and numbers.
- For short plates:
+ The police emblem is imprinted in the middle position between two rows of numbers on the plate, 5 mm away from the left edge.
- Spacing between letters and numbers: 10 mm.
The main line on the left of the number 1 is 29 mm away from other letters and numbers; the main line left between two adjacent number 1s is 48 mm.

- Motor vehicles and specialized vehicles are issued temporary license plates and registrations in the following cases:
a) Having a quality safety and environmental protection certification, a vehicle production quality inspection slip for moving from the factory to a warehouse, port, or from warehouse, port, factory, dealer to the place of vehicle registration or to other dealers, storage locations;
b) Vehicles undergoing recovery procedures for re-export or transfer of ownership; vehicles serving events organized by the Communist Party, State; vehicles registered abroad that are authorized by competent authorities, including right-hand drive vehicles entering Vietnam for trans-boundary, temporary import, re-export for conference, fair, exhibition, sports, tourism participation; except in cases where vehicles are not required to have temporary license plates according to international treaties to which the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a member and the case prescribed in Article 55 of this Law;

- Foreigners' cars registered abroad with right-hand drive participating in traffic in Vietnam, foreign motor vehicles imported by foreigners for tourism must be licensed by competent authorities.
- Vehicles in testing belonging to research development subjects having the need to participate in road traffic meeting the technical requirements for motor vehicles, specialized vehicles belonging to research development subjects having the need to participate in road traffic.
