What is the color of license plates of military vehicles in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 36 of the Road Traffic Order and Safety Law 2024 on vehicle license plates:
Article 36. Vehicle License Plates
- Vehicle license plates are issued by competent state agencies according to the regulations in Article 37 and Article 39 of this Law; they are affixed to road vehicles according to the rules of this Law to serve state management.
- Vehicle license plates are classified as follows:
a) License plates with a blue background, white letters, and numbers are issued for vehicles of the Communist Party, State, political - social organizations, public service providers;
b) License plates with a red background, white letters, and numbers are issued for military vehicles;
c) License plates with a yellow background, black letters, and numbers are issued for vehicles engaged in transport business;
d) License plates with a white background, black letters, and numbers are issued for vehicles of domestic organizations and individuals, not classified under points a, b, and c of this paragraph;

According to the above regulation, military vehicle license plates have a red background with white letters and numbers.
Are license plates of military vehicles in Vietnam allowed to put up for auction?
Pursuant to Article 37 of the Road Traffic Order and Safety Law 2024 on the auction of vehicle license plates:
Article 37. Auction of Vehicle License Plates
- Vehicle license plates put up for auction are license plates for cars, motorbikes, and motorcycles as specified in points c and d of paragraph 2, Article 36 of this Law, and are publicly available for organizations and individuals to choose to register for the auction. Vehicle license plates not chosen by organizations or individuals for auction registration will be transferred to the vehicle registration and management system for registration according to the law.
- The starting price for a car license plate put up for auction is not less than VND 40 million; the starting price for a motorbike, motorcycle license plate put up for auction is not less than VND 5 million.
- The deposit is not less than the starting price of the type of license plate put up for auction.
- When the registration deadline for the auction expires with only one person registered or multiple people registered but only one person participating, or multiple people participating but only one person offering at least the starting price for a license plate being auctioned, that person is determined to be the winner of the license plate auction.

According to the above regulation, vehicle license plates put up for auction are as follows:
- License plates with a yellow background, black letters, and numbers issued for vehicles engaged in transport business
- License plates with a white background, black letters, and numbers issued for vehicles of domestic organizations and individuals, not including the following:
+ License plates with a blue background, white letters, and numbers issued for vehicles of the Communist Party, State, political - social organizations, public service providers
+ License plates with a red background, white letters, and numbers issued for military vehicles
+ License plates with a yellow background, black letters, and numbers issued for vehicles engaged in transport business
Thus, military vehicle license plates are not among the types of license plates put up for auction.
