What vehicles are holders of A driver license allowed to operate in Vietnam?

Based on Article 57 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety Regulations 2024 on driver licenses in Vietnam:

1. The driver license includes the following classes:

a) Class A1 is issued to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with an engine displacement up to 125 cm3 or with an electric motor power up to 11 kW;

b) Class A is issued to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with an engine displacement over 125 cm3 or with electric motor power over 11 kW and the types of vehicles prescribed for A1-class driver licenses;

c) Class B1 is issued to drivers of three-wheeled motorcycles and the types of vehicles prescribed for A1-class driver licenses;

d) Class B is issued to drivers of passenger cars with up to 08 seats (excluding the driver's seat); trucks and special-use cars with a designed total weight up to 3,500 kg; the types of cars specified for B-class driver licenses towing trailers with a designed total weight up to 750 kg;

dd) Class C1 is issued to drivers of trucks and special-use cars with a designed total weight from over 3,500 kg to 7,500 kg; the types of trucks specified for C1-class driver licenses towing trailers with a designed total weight up to 750 kg; the types of vehicles specified for B-class driver licenses;

What are age requirements for A driver license in Vietnam?

Based on Clause 1 Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety Regulations 2024 on the age and health of road traffic participants:

1. The age of drivers and operators of special-use motorcycles is regulated as follows:

a) Individuals who are 16 years and older are allowed to operate motorbikes;

b) Individuals who are 18 years and older are issued A1, A, B1, B, and C1-class driver licenses, and are granted a certificate of legal traffic knowledge training to operate special-use motorcycles on public roads;

c) Individuals who are 21 years and older are issued C and BE-class driver licenses;

d) Individuals who are 24 years and older are issued D1, D2, C1E, and CE-class driver's licenses;

dd) Individuals who are 27 years and older are issued D, D1E, D2E, and DE-class driver licenses;

e) The maximum age for drivers of passenger cars (including buses) with over 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) and sleeper buses is 57 years for men and 55 years for women.

What are cases of revocation of A driver license in Vietnam?

Based on Article 62 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety Regulations 2024 on the issuance, renewal, reissuance, and revocation of driver licenses in Vietnam:

1. A driver license is issued to individuals who pass the driving exam with satisfactory results.

2. Individuals with a driver license can renew or reissue their license in the following cases:

a) The driver license is lost;

b) The driver license is damaged and no longer usable;

c) Before the expiration date stated on the driver license;

d) Change of information recorded on the driver's license;

dd) A foreign driver license issued by a competent foreign authority that remains valid;

e) A driver license issued by the Ministry of Defense or the Ministry of Public Security when required, or when the holder is no longer performing defense or security duties.

3. Encouragement for the renewal of permanent driver licenses issued before July 1, 2012, to driver licenses compliant with this Law.

4. No issuance, renewal, or reissuance of driver licenses for individuals violating road traffic order and safety regulations when they have not completed the compliance requirements set by the competent state authority regarding administrative violations in the road traffic order and safety sector.

5. A driver license is revoked in the following cases:

a) The holder of the driver license is medically unfit as concluded by a medical examination facility for the specific class of driver license;

b) The driver license was issued in violation of regulations;

c) The driver license has exceeded the retention period or the statute of limitations for executing an administrative penalty decision according to the law on handling administrative violations, and the violator did not retrieve it without a legitimate reason.
