What class of driver license requires upgrading training in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Clause 3, Article 60 of the Road Traffic Safety and Order Law 2024 regulating driver training:
Article 60. Driver training

- Driver licenses for classes C, D1, D2, D, BE, C1E, CE, D1E, D2E, DE must be obtained through advanced training methods in accordance with the conditions stipulated in Clauses 3 and 4 of this Article.

Thus, the following classes of driver licenses must undergo advanced training:
[1] Class C: Issued to drivers of trucks and specialized vehicles with a design load over 7,500 kg; types of trucks stipulated for Class C driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load up to 750 kg; vehicles as stipulated for Class B and Class C1 driver licenses.
[2] Class D1: Issued to drivers of passenger vehicles with more than 08 seats (excluding the driver's seat) to 16 seats (excluding the driver's seat); types of passenger vehicles stipulated for Class D1 driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load up to 750 kg; vehicles as stipulated for Class B, C1, C driver licenses.
[3] Class D2: Issued to drivers of passenger vehicles (including buses) with more than 16 seats (excluding the driver's seat) up to 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat); types of passenger vehicles stipulated for Class D2 driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load up to 750 kg; vehicles as stipulated for Class B, C1, C, D1 driver licenses.
[4] Class D: Issued to drivers of passenger vehicles (including buses) with more than 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat); sleeper buses; types of passenger vehicles stipulated for Class D driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load up to 750 kg; vehicles as stipulated for Class B, C1, C, D1, D2 driver licenses.
[5] Class BE: Issued to drivers of vehicle types stipulated for Class B driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load over 750 kg.
[6] Class C1E: Issued to drivers of vehicle types stipulated for Class C1 driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load over 750 kg.
[7] Class CE: Issued to drivers of vehicle types stipulated for Class C driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load over 750 kg; tractor units pulling semi-trailers.
[8] Class D1E: Issued to drivers of vehicle types stipulated for Class D1 driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load over 750 kg.
[9] Class D2E: Issued to drivers of vehicle types stipulated for Class D2 driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load over 750 kg.
[10] Class DE: Issued to drivers of vehicle types stipulated for Class D driver licenses pulling trailers with a design load over 750 kg; articulated buses.

When is a driver license in Vietnam revoked?
Pursuant to Clause 5, Article 62 of the Road Traffic Safety and Order Law 2024, a driver license is revoked under the following conditions:
- The holder of the driver license does not meet health conditions as concluded by a medical examination institution for the specific class of driver license.
- The driver license was issued improperly.
- The driver license has exceeded the temporary retention period or the effective period for implementing administrative penalty decisions according to the law on handling administrative violations, and the violator does not collect it without justifiable reasons.
How to determine the point score after upgrading the driver license class in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 58 of the Road Traffic Safety and Order Law 2024 regulating driver license points:

- If a driver license accumulates full point deductions, the license holder is prohibited from operating a vehicle as per that driver license. After a minimum period of 06 months from the date of full point deduction, if the license holder successfully passes an examination on legal knowledge about road traffic safety and order as stipulated in Clause 7, Article 61 of this Law organized by the Traffic Police force, and achieves satisfactory results, then 12 points will be restored.
4. A driver license after conversion, re-issue, or upgrade retains the same points as the previous driver license.
- An authority competent to impose administrative penalties is also competent to deduct points from a driver license.
- The Government of Vietnam provides detailed regulations for Clause 1 of this Article; regulations on procedures, authority to deduct points, restore driver license points; and the schedule for implementing this Article. The Minister of Public Security provides detailed regulations for Clause 3 of this Article.
According to the above regulations, a driver license after upgraded retains the same points as the driver license before the upgrade.
