What are main methods of penalty in road traffic violations in Vietnam?
According to Article 3 of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP on the forms of administrative sanctions, remedial measures; revocation of licenses, professional certificates:
Article 3. Forms of administrative sanctions, remedial measures; revocation of licenses, professional certificates
- For each act of administrative violation related to order and traffic safety in the road traffic sector, individuals or organizations committing the violation must be subject to one of the following principal forms of penalty:
a) Warning;

c) Confiscation of means used to commit administrative violations.
- Depending on the nature and degree of the violation, individuals or organizations committing administrative violations related to order and traffic safety in the road traffic sector may also be subject to one or more of the following additional penalties:
a) Temporary suspension of licenses or professional certificates;
b) Temporary suspension of activities;
c) Confiscation of administrative violation evidence, means used to commit administrative violations if not applied as the principal penalty according to point c clause 1 of this Article.

How should a road user in Vietnam obey traffic signal lights?
According to clause 4 Article 11 of Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, road users must obey traffic signal lights as follows:
[1] Green light means go
In cases where pedestrians or wheelchair users are on the road, the road vehicle operator must slow down or stop to give way to pedestrians or wheelchair users.
[2] Yellow light means stop before the stop line
If already at or have passed the stop line when the yellow light appears, it is allowed to proceed.
If the yellow light flashes, the road vehicle operator is allowed to proceed but must look carefully, slow down, or stop to give way to pedestrians, wheelchair users, or other vehicles.
[3] Red light means stop.
When should a motorcycle operator in Vietnam not overtake?
According to clause 6 Article 14 of Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, car operators participating in traffic should not overtake in the following situations:
- When the following conditions are not ensured:
+ No obstacles ahead
+ No oncoming vehicles in the intended overtaking stretch
+ The preceding vehicle has not signaled overtaking another vehicle, has signaled a right turn, and avoided to the right.
- On narrow bridges with a single lane
