Transporting 2 children to school on a motorcycle: Is it a violation of regulations on carrying passengers in excess of the prescribed number?
According to Clause 1, Article 30 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, regulations on operators and passengers on motorcycles and mopeds are as follows:
Operators of two-wheeled motorcycles or mopeds are allowed to carry only one passenger, except in the following cases where up to two passengers may be carried:
- Transporting a sick person for emergency treatment;
- Escorting a person who has committed illegal acts;
- Children under 14 years old.
Therefore, if carrying 2 children under 14 years old on a moped, it is not considered exceeding the regulated number of passengers. Thus, if you are taking your children to school and both of your children are under 14 years old, or if one of them is under 14 years old, it is not considered exceeding the regulated number of passengers. However, if both of your children are 14 years old or older, it will be a violation of the regulation on the number of passengers.
Sincerely.
