Requirements for Obtaining a Certificate of Professional Competence for Chief Engineer and Second Engineer on Ships with Main Engine Power from 750 kW to Less Than 3000 kW
According to Article 31 of Circular 03/2020/TT-BGTVT (effective from April 15, 2020) stipulating the conditions for the issuance of a Certificate of Professional Competence for chief engineers and second engineers on ships with a total main engine power from 750 kW to less than 3000 kW as follows:
- Professional Conditions:
+ Graduation in the field of marine engineering at the college level or higher. In case of graduation in the field of marine engineering at the intermediate level, it is required to complete an advanced training program as stipulated by the Minister of Transport;
+ Maritime English proficiency at level 2 or higher;
+ Completion of a professional training program as stipulated by the Minister of Transport;
+ Passing the examination for chief engineer and second engineer on ships with a total main engine power from 750 kW to less than 3000 kW.
- Conditions for holding the position:
+ For second engineer: a minimum of 24 months holding the position of marine engineer officer on ships with a total main engine power from 750 kW or more;
+ For chief engineer: a minimum of 24 months holding the position of second engineer on ships with a total main engine power from 750 kW to less than 3000 kW or a minimum of 12 months holding the position of chief engineer on ships with a total main engine power from 75 kW to less than 750 kW and a minimum of 12 months holding the position of second engineer on ships with a total main engine power from 750 kW to less than 3000 kW.
