Regulations on the Maximum Cargo Weight Permitted for Transportation by Vehicles
The dedicated officials of the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam - Ministry of Transport directly contacted Mr. Tran Manh Hung and were informed that Mr. Hung owns a tipper truck, license plate 19C-102.00, with vehicle specifications related to the inquiry (according to the Certificate of Technical Safety and Environmental Protection Inspection for the road motor vehicle) as follows:
- Vehicle's curb weight: 6,570kg.
- Number of allowed passengers (seated): 3 persons (195kg).
- Permissible cargo weight for traffic participation: 9,000kg.
- Total permissible weight for traffic participation: 15,765kg.
- Dimensions of the cargo box (LxWxH): 4030 x 2180 x 730mm.
Based on Circular 42/2014/TT-BGTVT dated September 15, 2014, which regulates the cargo box of tippers, tank trucks, and other trucks participating in road traffic; Circular 46/2015/TT-BGTVT dated September 7, 2015, which regulates the load, size limits of roads; the circulation of overloaded, oversized, and track-laying vehicles on roads; the transportation of super-heavy and oversized goods and the limitation of loading goods on road motor vehicles when participating in road traffic; Clause 18, Article 2 of Decree 123/2021/ND-CP of the Government of Vietnam, which regulates the sanctioning of administrative violations in the field of road and rail traffic, the case of Mr. Hung's vehicle is as follows:
With the specifications recorded in the Certificate of Technical Safety and Environmental Protection Inspection for the road motor vehicle, the maximum cargo weight the vehicle is allowed to transport is 9,000kg and the maximum total weight permissible for traffic participation is 16,665kg.
In the event of a violation for carrying goods exceeding 10% (>900kg) of the allowed cargo weight (9,000kg), penalties will be applied.
Regarding the cargo box dimensions of the vehicle, which are (4.03x2.18x0.73)m = 6.41m², in case the vehicle carries high-density cargo, the total permissible weight for traffic participation is ≤ 16,665kg. If the cargo has low density (bulky goods), the goods should only be loaded within the confines of the cargo box dimensions (6.41m³).
