Parking a Car on the Left Side of a One-Way Street: Is It Legal?
Is it legal to park a car on the left side of a one-way street?
Based on Clause 4, Article 18 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, it is regulated that vehicle operators are not allowed to stop or park at the following locations:
a) On the left side of a one-way street;
b) On curved sections of the road and near the top of slopes with obstructed visibility;
c) On bridges, under overpasses;
d) Parallel to another vehicle that is stopped or parked;
e) On the part of the road designated for pedestrian crossings;
f) At intersections and within 5 meters from the intersection's edge;
g) At bus stops;
h) In front of and within 5 meters on both sides of the gates of state agencies' or organizations' premises;
i) At locations where the road is only wide enough for one lane;
k) Within the safety zone of railways;
l) Obstructing road signs.
Thus, parking a car on the left side of a one-way street is against the law, and therefore your being fined is conformable to the law.
How much is the fine for parking a car on the left side of a one-way street?
Based on Clause 4 Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP, amended by Article 2 of Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, a fine ranging from 2,000,000 VND to 3,000,000 VND will be imposed on vehicle operators who commit any of the following violations:
a) Using a hand to operate a mobile phone while driving;
b) Driving in prohibited areas, roads with signs prohibiting the type of vehicle being driven, except for violations specified at Point c, Clause 5, Point a, Clause 8 of this Article, and emergency vehicles performing urgent tasks as regulated;
c) Operating a vehicle not eligible for electronic toll collection (vehicle without a tag or with a tag but insufficient funds in the toll account) entering the electronic toll collection lane at toll stations;
d) Stopping or parking at positions: On the left side of a one-way street or the left side (direction of travel) of a dual carriageway; on curved sections or near the tops of slopes with obstructed visibility; on bridges, under overpasses, parallel to another stopped or parked vehicle, except for violations specified at Point d, Clause 7 of this Article;
e) Stopping, parking, or making a U-turn illegally causing traffic congestion;
