Is it Possible to Take the A2 License Test Without Having the A1 License?
According to Clause 2, Article 59 of the 2008 Road Traffic Law, the classifications of driver's licenses are regulated as follows:
Permanent driver's licenses include the following categories:
- Category A1 is issued to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with a cylinder capacity from 50 cm3 to under 175 cm3;
- Category A2 is issued to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with a cylinder capacity from 175 cm3 or more and for the types of vehicles specified for Category A1 driver's licenses;
- Category A3 is issued to drivers of three-wheeled motorcycles, the types of vehicles specified for Category A1 driver's licenses, and similar vehicles.
*** The A2 driver's license is issued to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with a cylinder capacity from 175 cm3 or more and for the types of vehicles specified for Category A1 driver's licenses.***
The current law does not stipulate that one must have an A1 driver's license to be eligible to take exams for other categories. Depending on individual needs, a person may take tests to obtain driver's licenses of various categories. => Therefore, in your case, not having an A1 driver's license does not prevent you from taking the A2 driver's license exam.
Sincerely!
