Is It Necessary to Change a Driver’s License When the Permanent Residence Information Differs from the Identity Card?
According to Article 37 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT, the following cases require a driver's license replacement:
- The replacement of paper driver's licenses with PET material driver's licenses is encouraged to be carried out before December 31, 2020.
- Individuals with a limited-term driver's license should renew their driver's license before its expiration date; individuals with a damaged driver's license that is still within its valid period are eligible for a replacement driver's license.
- Individuals holding an E-class driver's license who are 55 years old for men and 50 years old for women, and wish to continue driving, if meeting health requirements as stipulated, may apply for a replacement driver's license at class D or lower.
- In cases where the birth year, surname, given name, or middle name listed on the driver's license differs from those on the ID card or citizen identification card, the driver's license management authority shall process the replacement of the driver's license to match the information on the ID card or citizen identification card.
Therefore, if the residential address information on the driver's license differs from that on the ID card, there is no need to replace the driver's license.
Sincerely!
