Is a Driving License Required for Riding an Electric Motorcycle?
According to the provisions of Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic 2008, the lowest class of driving license is Class A1. A Class A1 driving license is issued to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with an engine capacity from 50 cm3 to under 175 cm3. The law does not require a license for operating an electric scooter.
Furthermore, according to Point d, Clause 1, Article 3 of Decree 46/2016/ND-CP: An electric scooter is a moped powered by an electric motor with a maximum capacity not exceeding 4 kW and a maximum design speed not exceeding 50 km/h. The maximum speed of an electric scooter must not exceed 50 km/h; therefore, it does not require a license to operate.
==> The current law does not require a driving license to operate an electric scooter. Hence, you can rest assured when your sibling operates an electric scooter while participating in traffic. Although a driving license is not required for electric scooters, road traffic regulations must be followed, such as wearing a helmet while operating the vehicle to ensure safety.
