If a person let another person to use his/her driver license in Vietnam, will the license be revoked?
According to Point 14, Article 33 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT (amended by Point 24, Article 4 of Circular 05/2024/TT-BGTVT), the regulations regarding the cases of driver license revocation are as follows:
Use and management of driver licenses

14. The cases of driver license revocation include:
a) Drivers who engage in deceptive practices to obtain a driver license;
b) Drivers who alter, erase, or distort information on the driver license;
c) Allowing someone else to use their own driver license;
d) Issuance of a driver's license to individuals who do not meet the requirements;
dd) Errors in personal information such as name, date of birth, nationality, place of residence, driver license class, issuance date, selection date, and signatory;
e) Through medical examination, the competent authority determines the presence of drugs in the driver body (except for cases specified in points c and d of clause 10, points h and i of clause 8 of Decree No. 100/2019/NĐ-CP dated December 30, 2019).
Therefore, starting from June 1, 2024, anyone who allows someone else to use their driver license will have their license revoked.

What are types of driver licenses for motorcycles in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 16 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT stipulating types of driver licenses in Vietnam:
Classification of driver licenses
1. A1 class licenses issued to:
a) Persons controlling two-wheeled motorbikes with cylinder volume from 50 cm3 to less than 175 cm3;
b) Disabled controlling motor tricycles intended for the disabled.
2. A2 class licenses issued to persons controlling two-wheeled motorbikes with cylinder volume from 175 to cm3 and over and other types of vehicles intended for A1 class.
3. A3 class licenses issued to persons controlling motor tricycles, vehicles intended for A1 class and similar vehicles.
4. A4 class licenses issued to persons controlling small tractors with loading capacity up to 1,000 kg.
5. B1 class (automatic transmission) issued to persons who do not practice as a driver for controlling following types of cars:
a) Automatic transmission 9-seat cars including driver seat;
b) Trucks, including special trucks (automatic transmission) with design loading capacity less than 3.500 kg;
c) Cars intended for the disabled.
6. B1 class licenses issued to persons who do not practice as a driver for controlling following types of cars:
a) 9-seat cars including driver seat;
b) Trucks, including special trucks with design loading capacity less than 3.500 kg;
c) Tractors hauling a trailer with design loading capacity less than 3,500 kg.
7. B2 class licenses issued to persons who practice as a driver for controlling following types of cars:
a) Special cars with design loading capacity less than 3.500 kg;
b) Cars intended for B1 class.

A1 class licenses issued to:

A2 class licenses issued to:
- Persons controlling two-wheeled motorbikes with cylinder volume from 175 to cm3 and over
- Persons controlling other types of vehicles intended for A1 class.
A3 class licenses issued to:
- Persons controlling motor tricycles
- Persons controlling vehicles intended for A1 class and similar vehicles.
Is there an expiration date for a motorcycle driver license in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic in 2008 stipulating driver licenses:
Driver licenses
1. Depending on types, engine capacity, mass and utilities of motor vehicles, driver licenses are classified into driver licenses with unlimited validity and driver licenses with limited validity.
2. Driver licenses with unlimited validity are of the following categories:
a/ Category A1, granted to drivers of motorcycles with a cylinder capacity of between 50 cm3 and under 175 cm3;
b/ Category A2, granted to drivers of motorcycles with a cylinder capacity of 175 cm3 or higher and those prescribed for category-A1 driver licenses;
c/ Category A3, granted to drivers of three-wheeled motor vehicles and those prescribed for category-A1 driver licenses and similar vehicles.

As above regulations, motorcycle driver licenses of categoies A1, A2, A3 have unlimited validity.
