How to Park Cars on the Sidewalks Correctly?
Section 4, Article 18 of the 2008 Law on Road Traffic stipulates the positions where stopping and parking are prohibited, including:
- The left side of a one-way street;
- On curved sections of the road and near crests where visibility is obstructed;
- On bridges and under overpasses;
- Parallel to another vehicle that is already stopped or parked;
- …
=> According to this regulation, the sidewalk is not among the positions where stopping and parking are prohibited. You may park your car on the sidewalk.
However, when parking an automobile on the sidewalk, you must ensure the requirements stipulated in Article 18 of the 2008 Law on Road Traffic as follows:
- Signal to inform other vehicle operators;
- Stop and park the vehicle in a place with a wide shoulder or homestead land outside the roadway; in the case of a narrow or shoulderless road, the vehicle must be stopped or parked close to the right edge of the road in the direction of travel;
- If the road has designated stopping or parking places, vehicles must stop or park in those positions;
- After parking, only leave the vehicle once safety measures have been undertaken; if the parked vehicle occupies part of the roadway, a danger warning sign must be placed immediately in front and behind the vehicle to alert other vehicle operators;
- Do not open the vehicle door, leave the vehicle door open, or get out of the vehicle without ensuring safety conditions;
- Vehicles parked on slopes must have their wheels blocked.
Additionally, parking on the sidewalk must comply with the regulations in Article 19 of this Law as follows:
- Park the vehicle close to the right edge of the road or sidewalk according to the direction of travel; the nearest wheel should not be more than 0.25 meters away from the edge of the road or sidewalk and should not obstruct or endanger traffic. In the case of narrow streets, vehicles must stop and park at a position at least 20 meters away from the parked vehicle on the other side of the road.
- Do not park on tramways, drainage grates, telephone or high-voltage electrical conduits, or spots reserved for fire trucks to draw water. Do not leave vehicles on the roadway or sidewalk in contravention of regulations.
Respectfully!
