How long do you have to transfer the title after purchasing a used motorcycle?

I recently purchased a used motorcycle from an acquaintance in the same commune. When should I proceed with the name transfer for the vehicle?

According to Article 6 of Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA regarding the responsibilities of the vehicle owner, specifically:

  1. Comply with legal regulations on vehicle registration; go to the vehicle registration authority as stipulated in Article 3, fully declare the content on the vehicle registration form, and present the documents as stipulated in Article 9 of this Circular; take legal responsibility for the legality of the vehicle and the registration documents; pay the registration fee. It is strictly prohibited to falsify documents and alter the original engine or chassis numbers for vehicle registration.

  2. Bring the vehicle to the registration authority for inspection for the first registration, transfer of registration, modified vehicles, or color changes. Before modifying the vehicle or changing the color (including painting, advertising), the owner must declare on the Traffic Police Department’s electronic information portal at the vehicle modification declaration and color change section, or directly go to the vehicle registration authority and get confirmation from the registration authority before proceeding; carry out the procedure to renew the Vehicle Registration Certificate once the vehicle is modified or when changing the owner’s address.

  3. Within 7 days from the date of creating documents to transfer the ownership of the vehicle to an organization or individual:

a) Transfer of ownership to another organization or individual in a different province or centrally governed city (hereinafter referred to as inter-provincial transfer): The owner directly or authorizes an individual or service organization to submit the vehicle registration certificate and license plate to the vehicle registration authority;

b) Transfer of ownership to an organization or individual within the same province or centrally governed city (hereinafter referred to as intra-provincial transfer): The owner directly or authorizes an individual or service organization to submit the vehicle registration certificate to the vehicle registration authority. In cases where the organization or individual purchases, is transferred, gifted, allocated, or inherits the vehicle and carries out the transfer procedures immediately, there is no need to proceed with the procedure to revoke the vehicle registration certificate.

...

Thus, based on the aforementioned regulations, you must bring the vehicle to the registration authority to carry out the ownership transfer procedure within 07 days from the date of creating the documents to transfer the vehicle's ownership. Please base your actions on the given regulations to comply correctly. Best regards!
