From January 1, 2025, where is u-turn not permitted in Vietnam?
According to Article 15 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 regulating u-turn in Vietnam:
Article 15. U-turn
- Turning is a traffic situation where the vehicle turns left, right, or makes a U-turn.
- Before turning, the driver must observe, ensure a safe distance from the vehicle behind, reduce speed, and signal a turn either with a turn light or hand signal in the direction of turn for non-motorized vehicles without turn lights, gradually changing to the nearest lane in the turning direction. The turn signal or hand signal must be used continuously during the turning process. Only when it is safe and does not obstruct others may the direction be changed.
- When turning, the driver and operators of specialized motor vehicles must yield to pedestrians, non-motorized vehicles, and oncoming vehicles and should only turn when it does not cause obstruction or danger to others.
4. Making a U-turn is not allowed in pedestrian crossings, on bridges, bridge approaches, under overpasses, in tunnels, at railroad crossings, on narrow roads, sloped roads, at curves with limited visibility, on expressways, in road tunnels, on one-way streets, unless instructed otherwise by traffic controllers or temporary signs.
According to the above regulations, as of January 1, 2025, it is prohibited for traffic participants to make a U-turn at the following locations:
- Pedestrian crossings
- On bridges, bridge approaches, under overpasses, in tunnels- At grade-level railroad crossings, narrow roads, sloped roads
- Curves with limited visibility
- On expressways, in road tunnels
- On one-way streets, unless instructed otherwise by traffic controllers or temporary signs
- Places with signs prohibiting U-turns

What documents must a driver carry when participating in traffic in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 56 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 regulating the conditions for drivers participating in road traffic in Vietnam:
Article 56. Conditions for drivers participating in road traffic
- Drivers must be of legal age and health as regulated by law; possess a valid driving license suitable for the type of vehicle being operated, issued by authorized agencies, except for those operating motorbikes as regulated in paragraph 4 of this Article. When participating in road traffic, drivers must carry the following documents:
a) Vehicle registration certificate or a certified copy of the vehicle registration certificate accompanied by the original document of confirmation from a financial institution, foreign bank branch where the vehicle is mortgaged;
b) Valid driving license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated;

According to the above regulations, drivers must carry the following documents when participating in traffic:
- Vehicle registration certificate or a certified copy of the certificate with the original confirmation document from a financial institution or foreign bank branch if the vehicle is mortgaged
- Valid driving license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated
- Certification of technical safety and environmental protection inspection for motor vehicles as prescribed by law
- Mandatory civil liability insurance certificate for motor vehicle owners
What conditions must motor vehicles meet to participate in road traffic in Vietnam?
According to Article 35 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 regulating the conditions for vehicles participating in road traffic:
Article 35. Conditions for vehicles participating in road traffic
- Motor vehicles and specialized motorbikes participating in road traffic must meet the following conditions:
a) Certified vehicle registration and number plates according to the law;
b) Ensure quality of technical safety and environmental protection as per legal regulations.
- Transportation business automobiles must install journey monitoring devices. Automobiles carrying more than 8 seats (excluding the driver's seat), tractors, and ambulances must have journey monitoring devices and image recording devices for drivers.
- Intelligent vehicles ensure the conditions stipulated in paragraph 1 of this Article and must be licensed to operate by competent authorities.

Thus, motor vehicles participating in road traffic must meet the following conditions:
- Certified vehicle registration and number plates according to the laws
- Ensure quality of technical safety and environmental protection as prescribed by the law
