a) driver licenses of categories A1, A, B1 have no expiry date;
b) driver licenses of category B and category C1 have a validity period of 10 years from the date of issuance;
c) driver licenses of categories C, D1, D2, D, BE, C1E, CE, D1E, D2E, and DE have a validity period of 5 years from the date of issuance.

Thus, driver licenses with a 10-year validity in Vietnam include:
[1] Category B issued to drivers of passenger cars with up to 8 seats (excluding the driver's seat); trucks and special-use cars with a total weight of up to 3,500 kg as per design; trailer cars with a total design weight of up to 750 kg as regulated for category B driver licenses.
[2] Category C1 issued to drivers of trucks and special-use cars with a total design weight from over 3,500 kg to 7,500 kg; trailer cars with a total design weight up to 750 kg as regulated for category C1 driver licenses; vehicles regulated for category B driver licenses.

At what age can one be issued a driver license with a 10-year validity in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Clause 1, Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 regulating the age and health of drivers participating in road traffic:
Article 59. Age and health of drivers participating in road traffic
- The age of drivers and special-use motorbike operators is regulated as follows:
a) Persons aged 16 and older are allowed to operate motorbikes;
b) Persons aged 18 and older are eligible for category A1, A, B1, B, C1 driver licenses, and for a certificate of knowledge on road traffic laws to operate special-use motorbikes in road traffic;
c) Persons aged 21 and older are eligible for category C, BE driver licenses;
d) Persons aged 24 and older are eligible for category D1, D2, C1E, CE driver licenses;
dd) Persons aged 27 and older are eligible for category D, D1E, D2E, DE driver licenses;
e) The maximum age for male drivers of passenger cars (including buses) with over 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) and sleeper buses is 57 years, and for female drivers, it is 55 years.

According to the above regulations, the driver licenses with a 10-year validity period are category B and category C1 licenses, issued to individuals aged 18 and older.
Who is eligible for training to upgrade their driver license in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 60 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, regulating driver training in Vietnam:
Article 60. Driver training
- Individuals who wish to obtain a driver license must undergo theoretical and practical training according to the training program prescribed for each driver license category.
- Trainees must receive training at driving training institutions or through other forms of driver training to obtain or upgrade their driver license.
- Training for upgrading driver licenses applies to the following subjects:
a) Upgrading from category B to category C1, or C, or D1, or D2;
b) Upgrading from category C1 to category C, or D1, or D2;
c) Upgrading from category C to category D1, or D2, or D;
d) Upgrading from category D1 to category D2, or D;
dd) Upgrading from category D2 to category D;
e) Upgrading from category B to BE, from category C1 to C1E, from category C to CE, from category D1 to D1E, from category D2 to D2E, from category D to DE.

According to the above regulations, individuals eligible for training to upgrade their driver license include:
- Upgrading from category B to category C1, or C, or D1, or D2
- Upgrading from category C1 to category C, or D1, or D2
- Upgrading from category C to category D1, or D2, or D
- Upgrading from category D1 to category D2, or D
- Upgrading from category D2 to category D

Note: The Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 is effective in Vietnam from January 1, 2025.
