Environmental Protection in Port Operations and Inland Waterway Terminals
Article 47 of Decree 08/2021/ND-CP stipulates environmental protection in the exploitation of inland port and wharf operations, accordingly the port and inland wharf operators are responsible for:
- Developing and implementing an oil spill response plan as prescribed for inland ports and wharves engaged in petroleum trading.
- Allocating personnel for management, and carrying out environmental protection work of ports and wharves.
- Collecting and treating wastewater generated during the operational process of the ports and wharves, ensuring environmental technical standards; conducting periodic wastewater monitoring before and after treatment as required in the approved dossier; retaining monitoring data to serve the inspection of the wastewater treatment system operation.
- Collecting, classifying, and storing solid waste and hazardous waste generated during the operational process of the ports and wharves for treatment or hiring a qualified organization to receive, transport, and handle the waste as prescribed.
- Arranging means, tools, and equipment at the ports and wharves to receive ordinary solid waste from vehicles, ships, foreign watercraft, and seaplanes; posting and providing a list of organizations qualified to handle hazardous waste to receive, transport, and treat hazardous waste generated from vehicles, ships, foreign watercraft, and seaplanes.
- Minimizing dust and limiting noise and vibration that adversely affect the surrounding environment and workers.
- Arranging isolation and ensuring safe distance in receiving, storing dangerous goods, and flammable and explosive goods as prescribed.
