Conditions for Issuance of Certificate of Competence for Master, Chief Mate of Vessels from 500 GT to Under 3000 GT
According to Article 25 of Circular 03/2020/TT-BGTVT (effective from April 15, 2020) stipulating the conditions for issuing a Certificate of Competence for ship masters and chief mates of ships from 500 GT to under 3000 GT as follows:
- Professional Conditions:
+ Graduated with a major in maritime ship operation at a college level or higher. In case of graduating with a major in maritime ship operation at an intermediate level, one must complete an advanced training program as stipulated by the Minister of Transport;
+ Possess maritime English proficiency level 2 or higher;
+ Complete the professional training program as stipulated by the Minister of Transport;
+ Pass the examination for ship masters and chief mates of ships from 500 GT to under 3000 GT.
- Conditions for holding the position:
+ For chief mates: must have held the position of deck officer on ships from 500 GT or larger for a minimum of 24 months;
+ For ship masters: must have held the position of chief mate on ships from 500 GT to under 3000 GT for at least 24 months or have held the position of ship master on ships from 50 GT to under 500 GT operating in nearshore routes for at least 12 months and held the position of chief mate on ships from 500 GT to under 3000 GT for at least 12 months.
