Changing Damaged Motorbike License Plates from 3 Digits to 5 Digits: Is It Required?

According to provisions in Clause 10, Article 25 of Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA, a license plate with 03 numbers can be changed to a license plate with 05 numbers in cases of change of ownership registration; replacement, reissuance of vehicle license plates.

Clause 2, Article 11 of this Circular stipulates the subjects eligible for replacement and reissuance of vehicle license plates: License plates that are blurred, broken, damaged, or lost, or vehicle owners who wish to change 3 or 4-number plates to 5-number plates; vehicles involved in transportation businesses that have been registered with a white background, black letters, and numbers can change to a yellow background, black letters, and numbers.

Based on the above regulations, in the case where your vehicle’s license plate is broken, you can proceed with the procedures for reissuing the vehicle’s license plate, and it will be changed from a license plate with 03 numbers to a license plate with 05 numbers.

Regarding the time for reissuing blurred or damaged license plates: No more than 7 working days from the date of receipt of a complete and valid dossier (Clause 4, Article 4 of Circular 58).
