Change of Identification to Citizen Identity Card: Is it Necessary to Reissue the Driver's License?
According to Clause 4, Article 37 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT:
The conversion of paper driving licenses to driving licenses made of PET material is encouraged to be done before December 31, 2020.
Individuals holding driving licenses that have an expiration date must convert their driving licenses before the end of their validity period; individuals holding damaged driving licenses that are still within the validity period may have their licenses replaced.
Male individuals holding category E driving licenses who are 55 years old and female individuals who are 50 years old, if they wish to continue driving and meet health requirements as regulated, may have their driving licenses converted to category D or lower.
In cases where the year of birth, surname, first name, or middle name recorded on the driving license differs from the information on the national identification card or citizen identification card, the driving license management authority will proceed with the conversion process to a new driving license that conforms to the information on the national identification card or citizen identification card.
=> Therefore, according to the above regulation, driving licenses will be reissued in the aforementioned cases. In the case of switching from a national identification card to a citizen identification card, there is no need to reissue the driving license.
Sincerely.
