Certificate of Truck Registration Validity Duration

Based on the provisions of Clause 1, Article 23 of Circular 58/2020/TT-BCA regarding the validity period of the vehicle registration certificate:

The registration certificate for cargo trucks, passenger cars, and modified vehicles will be recorded according to the usage lifespan as stipulated by the Government of Vietnam.

At the same time, according to Article 4 of Decree 95/2009/ND-CP, the usage lifespan of vehicles is applied as follows:

- Not exceeding 25 years for cargo trucks.- Not exceeding 20 years for passenger cars.- Not exceeding 17 years for vehicles converted from other types into passenger cars before January 01, 2002.

Article 5 of this Decree also defines the starting point for calculating the usage lifespan as follows:

The usage lifespan of a vehicle is calculated starting from the year of manufacture. In certain special cases approved by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, the usage lifespan is calculated from the year of the first registration of the vehicle.

Thus, according to this provision, if you buy a cargo truck, the usage lifespan of the vehicle is not more than 25 years. The validity period of the vehicle registration certificate will be recorded according to this lifespan, and if it does not fall under special cases approved by the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam, the registration period will still be recorded according to the year the vehicle was manufactured, not the year you first registered the vehicle.
