When to apply for 10th grade admission for the 2023-2024 school year in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam?

On July 7, 2023, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City issued Official Dispatch 3592/SGDDT-KTKD of 2023 on submitting and receiving applications for students entering grade 10 high school for the 2023-2024 school year. 

In Section I of Official Dispatch 3592/SGDDT-KTKD of 2023, there are regulations on the time to submit applications for admission to grade 10 for the 2023-2024 school year in Ho Chi Minh City as follows:

TIME TO RELEASE STANDARDS AND SUBMIT APPLICATIONS TO GRADE 10

- The date for announcing admission benchmarks for grade 10 high school for the 2023 - 2024 school year across the City is July 7, 2023.

- Time for students to submit applications: from July 11, 2023 to 17:00 August 1, 2023.

- The standard score table of high schools is information on the website www.hcm.edu.vn of the Department of Education and Training.

Thus, the 10th grade admission application period starts from July 11, 2023 to 5:00 p.m. August 1, 2023.

What documents are included in admission profile of students admitted to public and non-public high schools in Vietnam?

In Section II Official Dispatch 3592/SGDDT-KTKD of 2023, there are regulations on admission documents to grade 10 at public and non-public high schools including the following documents:

- Registration form for middle school graduation in 2023 and entrance exam for grade 10 high school in the 2023-2024 school year;

- Grade 10 admission report card with test scores and 3 aspirations (applies to students admitted to public high schools);

- Secondary school transcript (original);

- Temporary graduation certificate issued by educational institutions and submit the original diploma when issued by the Department of Education and Training;

- Birth certificate is checked from the 10th grade entrance exam registration dossier;

- Certificate of entitlement to priority policies (if any) issued by a competent authority.

On August 10, 2023, the Admissions Council of the schools will meet to summarize the admission of students and send a report to the Department of Education and Training (through the Department of Testing and Educational Quality Assurance). 

After being recruited into the non-specialized class of Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted, do students choose classes based on the student's wishes and abilities in Vietnam?

In Subsection 2, Section VI, Appendix IX, Guidance on entrance exams for grade 10 of specialized high schools for the 2023-2024 school year, issued together with Official Dispatch 3592/SGDDT-KTKD of 2023 of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has regulations on admission procedures for grade 10 as follows:

2. Note:

- If after submitting complete admission documents, the school discovers that there are errors compared to the above regulations or that the candidate is not eligible to take the exam, the candidate will be removed from the school's student list.

- Candidates who have applied for admission to the above schools and the High School for the Gifted under Ho Chi Minh City National University will no longer be on the Department of Education's admission list for specialized, regular 10th grade of the Department of Education and Training (because each student can only enroll in one school).

- After being recruited into the non-specialized class of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, students will be guided to choose classes according to their wishes and abilities.

- The transfer of students from specialized classes is carried out in accordance with Article 26 of the Regulations on organization and operation of specialized high schools (Promulgated together with Circular No. 06/2012/TT-BGDDT dated February 15 2012 by the Minister of Education and Training).

Thus, after being recruited into the non-specialized class of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, students will be selected for classes according to their wishes and abilities in Vietnam.

Can I change my wish after the 10th grade admission results in Ho Chi Minh City are released in Vietnam?

In Section III of Official Dispatch 3592/SGDDT-KTKD of 2023, there are regulations on changing wishes as follows:

III. CHANGING VOICES

The Department of Education and Training does not handle cases of changing wishes after announcing admission results.

High schools do not accept applications nor provide guidance on how to change wishes. High schools only accept applications from candidates on the unit's 10th grade admission list.

Thus, requests to change wishes after the 10th grade admission results in Ho Chi Minh City will not be accepted nor will there be instructions on changing wishes in Vietnam.
