Based on Article 14 of the Regulation on lower and upper secondary school admissions issued along with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT on direct admission and priority policies for upper secondary school admissions:

Article 14. Direct admission and priority policies for upper secondary school admissions

  1. The following entities are eligible for direct admission to upper secondary school:

a) Students from ethnic boarding schools at the lower secondary level.

b) Students who are members of very small ethnic minority groups.

c) Students with disabilities.

d) Lower secondary school students who win national prizes organized by the Ministry of Education and Training or in cooperation with other Ministries and equivalent agencies for nationwide competitions, exams, festivals (hereafter referred to as competitions) in culture, arts, sports, science, and technology research competitions.

dd) Lower secondary school students who win international competitions for which the selection is decided by the Minister of Education and Training.

Priority points are added to the total admission score calculated on a scale of 10 (ten) for each test subject. Group 1: receives 2.0 points; Group 2 receives 1.5 points; Group 3 receives 1.0 point.

Based on Article 13 of the Regulation on lower and upper secondary school admissions issued along with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT on the organization of entrance exams:

Article 13. Organization of Entrance Exams

  1. Exam Subjects, Exam Papers

a) The number of exam subjects, exam papers includes: Mathematics, Literature, and one additional subject or paper from one of the two options chosen by the Department of Education and Training:

- The third subject selected from subjects evaluated by scores in the lower secondary education curriculum, ensuring not to choose the same third subject for more than three consecutive years;

- The third paper is a composite exam containing several subjects selected from those evaluated by scores in the lower secondary education curriculum.

For upper secondary schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, university departments, and research institutes with independent entrance exams, the third subject or exam paper is chosen directly by the Ministry of Education and Training, the university, or the institute managing the exams.

b) The third subject or paper is announced after semester I ends but no later than March 31 each year.

c) Testing time: Literature: 120 minutes; Mathematics: 90 or 120 minutes; the third subject: 60 or 90 minutes; the third paper: 90 or 120 minutes.

d) Exam content is within the lower secondary education curriculum, primarily from grade 9.

What are the responsibilities of the Department of Education and Training of Vietnam in admission to grade 10?

Based on Article 18 of the Regulation on lower and upper secondary school admissions issued along with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT, the responsibilities of the Department of Education and Training in Grade 10 admissions include:

- Constructing and submitting to the provincial People's Committee the decision to establish the upper secondary school Admissions Steering Committee and approving the upper secondary school admissions plan within their management scope.

- For Departments of Education and Training conducting their exams:

+ Specifically regulating the procedures for setting exam questions, conducting exams, scoring, and re-evaluating exam papers.

+ Organizing the selection of the third subject or paper and conducting exams as per regulations.

- Guiding educational divisions, upper secondary schools within their management scope to carry out lower and upper secondary school admissions.

- Deciding on the establishment of the upper secondary school Admissions Council; approving upper secondary school admission results within their management scope.

- Organizing inspections and checks on lower and upper secondary school admissions, including admissions work of lower and upper secondary schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, college departments, and research institutes within their management scope.

- Keeping admission records of upper secondary schools as prescribed by law.

- Performing statistics, information, reporting on lower and upper secondary school admissions upon request from competent authorities.
