What is the template for Student Leave of Absence Request in 2025?
Currently, the law does not specify a precise template for a student leave of absence request. However, parents/students can refer to the following student leave request form:

How many days can lower lower secondary and upper lower secondary school students in Vietnam take off before they cannot advance to the next class?
Article 12 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT provides regulations on advancing to the next class, evaluation during summer vacation, and conditions for not advancing to the next class as follows:
Article 12. Advancing to the Next Class, Evaluation during Summer Vacation, Not Advancing to the Next Class
- Students who meet the following conditions are allowed to advance to the next class or be recognized for completing the lower secondary, upper secondary school program:
a) The year-round conduct evaluation (including the re-evaluation after summer conduct sessions per Article 13 of this Circular) must be rated as Achieved or higher.
b) The yearly academic results (including re-evaluation of subjects per Article 14 of this Circular) must be rated as Achieved or higher.
c) Must not exceed 45 days of absence in one academic year (based on an educational plan of 1 session per day as stipulated in the General Education Program, including excused and unexcused absences, continuous or intermittent absences).
- Students required to undertake re-conduct during the summer shall follow the provisions of Article 13 of this Circular; students needing to re-evaluate subjects during the summer shall comply with Article 14 of this Circular.
- Students failing to meet the provisions of section 1 of this Article will not be allowed to advance to the next class or be recognized for completing the lower secondary, upper secondary school program.
- For students with disabilities: The principal shall consider promotion or recognition of program completion based on the disability evaluation results, in accordance with Article 11 of this Circular particularly for students with disabilities.
As such, one of the conditions for lower secondary and upper secondary school students to advance to the next class is not exceeding 45 days of absence in one academic year (based on an educational plan of 1 session per day as stipulated in the General Education Program, including excused and unexcused absences, continuous or intermittent absences).
In summary, lower secondary and upper secondary school students who exceed 45 days of absence in one academic year, in cases of both excused/unexcused, continuous/non-continuous absence, will not be allowed to advance to the next class.

What are methods for evaluation for lower secondary and upper secondary school students in Vietnam?
Article 5 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT sets out evaluation methods for lower secondary and upper secondary school students as follows:
(1) Evaluation by Remarks
- Teachers use spoken or written forms to give remarks on the execution of students' conduct and coursework; highlight the progress, major strengths, and weaknesses of students during their conduct and learning process; evaluate the final results of their conduct and academic performance.
- Students use spoken or written forms to self-reflect on their conduct and academic tasks, their progress, major strengths, and primary weaknesses.
- Parents, institutions, organizations, and individuals involved in the educational process provide feedback on the conduct and academic tasks of the students.
- Evaluation by remarks of conduct and academic results of students is utilized in ongoing and periodic evaluations through formats that check and assess the execution of students' conduct and academic tasks in line with the subject’s specific nature.
(2) Evaluation by Scores
- Teachers use scores to evaluate the conduct and academic results of students.
- Evaluation by scores is conducted in ongoing and periodic evaluations through formats that check and assess the execution of students’ conduct and academic tasks, compatible with the specific nature of the subject.
(3) Evaluation Forms for Subjects
- Evaluation by remarks, for subjects: Physical Education, Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, Experiential and Professional Orientation Activities; academic performance per subject is rated as Achieved or Not Achieved.
- Evaluation by remarks combined with score-based assessment applies to subjects within the General Education Program, except the aforementioned subjects; academic performance per subject is scored based on a scale of 10; if a different scale is used, it must be converted to the 10-point scale. The score is presented as an integer or a decimal number rounded to one decimal place.
