How many extra points are awarded to an individual who wins second prize in the National Excellent Student Examination when considering for graduation for high school in Vietnam?
Based on Article 43 of the Regulation on high school graduation exams promulgated with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT, the regulation on extra points is as follows:
Article 43. Extra points
Learners participating in the following competitions and activities during the time of upper secondary education receive extra points for the recognition of high school graduation:
- Winning an individual prize in the excellent student selection exam: First, second, or third prize in the national exam, or first prize at the provincial level receives 2.0 points; commendation prize in the national exam or second prize at the provincial level receives 1.5 points; third prize at the provincial level receives 1.0 point;
- Winning individual and team prizes in practical experiment competitions for Physics, Chemistry, Biology; performing arts; sports; defense education sports festivals; science and technology competitions; international letter-writing organized in cooperation between the Education sector and professional sectors from the provincial level or higher.
a) For individual prizes: Winning a first, second, or third prize at the national level or first prize at the provincial level or Gold Medal receives 2.0 points; commendation prize at the national level or fourth prize in the national science and technology competition or second prize at the provincial level or Silver Medal receives 1.5 points; third prize at the provincial level or Bronze Medal receives 1.0 point;
b) For team prizes: extra points are only awarded for national team prizes; the number of players, athletes, performers of the team prize is as specifically regulated by the Organizing Committee of each competition; the extra point level is awarded to individuals in the team prize according to the rules for individual prizes as specified in this section.
- Learners winning multiple different prizes in various competitions/exams only receive the extra points for the highest level prize.
According to the above provisions, an individual awarded second prize in the national excellent student selection exam receives 2.0 extra points in the high school graduation exam.
What educational levels are included in general education in Vietnam?
Based on Article 6 of the Education Law 2019 on the national education system:
Article 6. National Education System
- The national education system is an open, continuous system encompassing formal education and continuing education.
- The levels and training qualifications of the national education system include:
a) Early childhood education includes nursery education and kindergarten education;
b) General education includes primary education, lower secondary education, and upper secondary education;
c) Vocational education providing elementary, intermediate, college-level qualifications, and other vocational training programs;
d) Higher education providing university-level, master's, and doctoral-level qualifications.
- The Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam decides and approves the Framework Structure of the National Education System and the Vietnam National Qualifications Framework; regulates training duration, standards for each training level, and minimum study load for vocational education and higher education levels.
- The Minister of Education and Training and the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, within their duties and authority, regulate the entry thresholds for college-level, university-level teacher training, and health-related fields.
According to the above provisions, general education includes primary education, lower secondary education, and upper secondary education.
