Official: Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy increases tuition fees for 2024?
Recently, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced the projection of tuition fee increases, which will be applied to students enrolling in the 2024 intake.
The increase in tuition fees for the 2024 intake will range from 46 to 84.7 million VND per year (depending on the major). Specifically, the projected tuition fee increases are as follows:

How to calculate university course grades?
In Article 9 of the University Training Regulations promulgated under Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the method of calculating university course grades is stipulated as follows:
[1] For each course, students are assessed via at least 02 component grades. Courses with less than 02 credits may have only 01 assessment grade.
[2] The component grades are evaluated on a 10-point scale. The assessment methods, forms, and weights of each component grade are specified in the detailed syllabus of each course.
[3] Online assessment forms are applied when they ensure honesty, fairness, and objectivity like direct assessments, and they contribute no more than 50% of the total grade. For project defense and thesis evaluation, online assessments can have higher weights if the following conditions are met:
- The assessment is carried out through a specialized council.- The online defense and assessment forms are agreed upon by council members and students.- The online defense proceedings are fully recorded and archived.
[4] Students absent from tests or assessments without valid reasons receive a grade of 0. Those with valid reasons may take the tests or assessments at another time, and their first attempt will be graded.
[5] Course grade = Total component grades x Corresponding weights.
In Detail:
*Grades are rounded to one decimal place.
*Grading scale is as follows:
- Pass grades with different levels, applicable to courses counted towards the GPA, include:
A: from 8.5 to 10.0.
B: from 7.0 to 8.4.
C: from 5.5 to 6.9.
D: from 4.0 to 5.4.
- Pass grades without levels, applicable to courses requiring only a pass and not counted towards the GPA: P: from 5.0 onwards.
- Fail grade: F: below 4.0.
*In special cases using letter grades, these are not counted towards the GPA:
I: Incomplete grade due to allowed exam/postponement.
X: Incomplete grade due to insufficient data.
R: Course exempted and credit recognized.
Who is eligible for university tuition support?
In Article 16 of Decree 81/2021/ND-CP, the provisions for tuition reduction and financial support for tuition are outlined as follows:
Entities eligible for tuition reduction and financial support for tuition

- Entities eligible for financial support for tuition: Elementary school students at private educational institutions in areas without sufficient public schools are provided with financial support for tuition by the state.
Thus, state support for tuition is only applied to elementary school students at private educational institutions in areas without sufficient public schools. However, students may still receive tuition support in the form of full or partial waivers as specified below:
[1] Students are exempted from tuition fees if they fall into the following categories: (according to Article 15 of Decree 81/2021/ND-CP)
- Entities specified in the Ordinance on preferential treatment for contributors to the revolution 2020.
- Students majoring in Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought.
- Students majoring in specialties like Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Mental Health, Forensic Medicine, Forensic Psychiatry, and Pathology at public health training institutions under state quotas.
- Students belonging to 16 ethnic groups with populations under 10,000: Cong, Mang, Pu Peo, Si La, Co Lao, Bo Y, La Ha, Ngai, Chut, O Du, Brau, Ro Mam, Lo Lo, Lu, Pa Then, La Hu.
- Students from vocational and university education who are ethnic minorities with parents or grandparents (in the case of living with grandparents) from poor or near-poor households.
- Students in the quota-approved enrollment program.
[2] Students receive a tuition fee reduction if they fall into the following categories: (according to Article 16 of Decree 81/2021/ND-CP)
*A 70% reduction for:
- Students in traditional and specific art majors at public and private vocational and higher education institutions that provide cultural-art training, including:
+ Folk Orchestra.
+ Traditional Hue Music.
+ Southern Don Ca Tai Tu.
+ Traditional Theatre.
+ Folk Performance Arts, Ca tru arts.
+ Bai Choi arts, traditional musical instrument performance.
- Students majoring in Court Music, Cheo, Tuong, Cai Luong, Dance, Circus; some hard, toxic, and dangerous vocational training according to the list of such vocations regulated by the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs.
- Students who are ethnic minorities (excluding small ethnic groups) in exceptionally difficult hamlets/villages, areas in ethnic and mountainous regions, or in coastal and island fringes.
*A 50% reduction for: Students who are children of officials, public employees, and workers, whose parents face occupational accidents or diseases and receive regular subsidies.
