Official: What are the subjects for the High School Graduation Exam in 2025 in Vietnam?
On December 24, 2024, the Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam issued Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT regarding the Regulation of the National High School Graduation Examination.
Pursuant to Article 3 of the Regulation on the National High School Graduation Examination issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT, the examination subjects are provided as follows:
Article 3. Examination Subjects
The examination session consists of 03 sessions: 01 session for Literature, 01 session for Mathematics, and 01 session for the elective test including 02 subjects among the following: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Informatics, Technology with Industrial Orientation (abbreviated as Industrial Technology), Technology with Agricultural Orientation (abbreviated as Agricultural Technology), Foreign Languages (English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Japanese, and Korean).
According to the above regulations, the High School Graduation Examination in 2025 consists of 2 compulsory subjects and 2 elective subjects. To be specific:

Who are the candidates eligible for the High School Graduation Exam in 2025 in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 19 of the Regulation on the National High School Graduation Examination issued together with Circular 24/2024/TT-BGDDT, the participants and conditions for the examination are stipulated as follows:
Article 19. Participants and Conditions for Examination
- Participants include:
a) Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education Program in the exam year;
b) Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education Program but have not yet graduated from high school in previous years;
c) Individuals who have a High School Graduation Diploma taking the exam to use the results for university admission registration;
d) Individuals who have a Secondary Diploma taking the exam to use the results for university admission registration.
- Conditions for examination:
a) Participants must register for the examination and submit all required documents on time;
b) Participants specified at point d, clause 1 of this Article must ensure they have learned and passed the required level of high school cultural knowledge according to the Education Law and the current guiding documents of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The participants for the 2025 National High School Graduation Examination include:
- Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education Program in the exam year.
- Individuals who have completed the General Education/Continuing Education Program but have not yet graduated from high school in previous years.
- Individuals who have a High School Graduation Diploma taking the exam to use the results for university admission registration.
- Individuals who have a Secondary Diploma taking the exam to use the results for university admission registration.
What are the standard qualifications for high school teachers in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 72 of the Education Law 2019, the standard qualifications for teachers are stipulated as follows:
Article 72. Standard Qualifications for Teachers
- The standard qualifications for teachers are defined as follows:
a) A college degree or higher in pedagogy for preschool teachers;
b) A bachelor's degree or higher in teacher training for primary, secondary, and high school teachers.
In cases where there are not enough teachers with a bachelor's degree in teacher training, they must hold a bachelor's degree in an appropriate field and have a teaching proficiency certificate;
c) A master's degree for university lecturers; a doctorate for those teaching and guiding master's theses and doctoral dissertations;
d) The standard qualifications of teachers in vocational education institutions comply with the Vocational Education Law.
- the Government of Vietnam stipulates the roadmap for enhancing the standard qualifications for preschool, primary, and secondary school teachers as specified at points a and b, clause 1 of this Article. The Minister of Education and Training and the Minister of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, within their duties and powers, prescribe the use of teachers in cases where they do not meet the requirements set out in clause 1 of this Article.
According to the above regulations, the standard qualification for high school teachers is to hold a bachelor's degree in teacher training or higher.
In cases where the subject does not have enough teachers with a bachelor's degree in teacher training, they must hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and have a teaching proficiency certificate.
