What methods are used to assess primary school students?
Pursuant to Clause 2, Article 5 of the Regulations on the Assessment of Primary School Students issued together with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, the assessment of primary school students is conducted through the following methods:
[1] Observation Method: Teachers observe and listen to students during classroom lectures, using observation sheets, checklists, and logbooks to record students' expressions as evidence for assessing their learning and practice process.
[2] Assessment through Learning Records, Student Products, and Activities: Teachers provide comments and evaluations on students' products and activity outcomes, thereby assessing students according to related assessment content.
[3] Oral Examination Method: Teachers engage with students through questions and answers to gather information for providing comments and assisting efforts promptly.
[4] Written Examination Method: Teachers employ tests comprising questions and exercises designed according to program requirements and levels, in the form of multiple choice, essay, or a combination of both, to assess students' achievement of necessary educational content.
How long is primary education program in Vietnam?
According to Article 28 of the Education Law 2019 regarding the levels and ages of general education:
Article 28. Levels and Ages of General Education
1. The levels and ages of general education are prescribed as follows:
a) Primary education is implemented over 5 school years, from grade one to the end of grade five. The age for students entering grade one is 6 years, calculated according to the year;
b) Lower secondary education is implemented over 4 school years, from grade six to the end of grade nine. Students entering grade six must complete the primary education program. The age for students entering grade six is 11 years, calculated according to the year;
c) Upper secondary education is implemented over 3 school years, from grade ten to the end of grade twelve. Students entering grade ten must have a lower secondary school certificate. The age for students entering grade ten is 15 years, calculated according to the year.
2. Cases where students are educated beyond the class, or at an older age than specified in Clause 1 of this Article include:
a) Students who exceed the class due to early intellectual development;
b) Students educated at an older age than stipulated due to repetition, residing in areas with special socio-economic difficulties, being of ethnic minority, having disabilities, underdeveloped in physical or mental capacity, orphaned, economically disadvantaged, returning from overseas, and other cases as stipulated by law.
