How many classes per week must teachers teach specialized subjects at high schools in Vietnam? Can teachers who also work as librarians be allowed to reduce their lesson quota in Vietnam? Can teachers hold three other positions in the school in Vietnam?

Hello, I am a new teacher working at a specialized high school in the city. Please ask, how many classes per week do primary school teachers teaching specialized subjects at specialized schools have to teach?

How many classes per week must teachers teach specialized subjects at high schools in Vietnam?

In Article 6, Regulations on working regimes for high school teachers, issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, supplemented by Clause 5, Article 1, Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT, regulations on norms Lessons are as follows:

The teaching period norm is the number of theoretical or practical lessons each teacher must teach in a week, specifically as follows:

1. The standard teaching period for elementary school teachers is 23 lessons, for middle school teachers is 19 lessons, and for high school teachers is 17 lessons;

2. The teaching schedule for teachers of boarding schools for ethnic minorities is 17 lessons at the junior high school level, 15 lessons at the high school level;

2 a. The standard teaching period for university preparatory school teachers is 12 lessons;

The teaching schedule for teachers of ethnic minority boarding schools is 21 lessons at the primary school level, 17 lessons at the secondary school level;

The norm of teaching hours for teachers in schools and classes for people with disabilities is 21 lessons for teachers at the primary school level, 17 lessons for teachers at the secondary school level.

3. The teacher is the General in charge of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Team. Grade I schools teach 2 lessons a week, Grade II schools teach 1/3 of the lesson quota, Grade III schools teach 1/2 of the lesson norm of teachers at the same grade level. The classification of high schools is according to current regulations.

In addition, in Clause 1, Article 11 of the Regulations on working regimes for high school teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT stipulates the conversion of other professional activities into teaching lessons as follows:

1. Teachers teaching specialized subjects at specialized schools and specialized classes, 1 lesson of specialized subject is calculated as 3 standard lessons.

Thus, for high school teachers, the teaching norm is 17 lessons/week in Vietnam. In case you are a specialized subject teacher at a specialized school, you have a teaching norm of about 6 lessons/week per week.

Can teachers who also work as librarians be allowed to reduce their lesson quota in Vietnam?

In Article 8, Regulations on working regimes for high school teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, supplemented by Clause 8, Article 1, Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT, regulations on reducing the lesson quota for teachers who concurrently perform professional jobs as follows:

1. Classroom teachers at the elementary level are reduced to 3 lessons/week, and at the middle and high school levels are reduced to 4 lessons/week.

2. Classroom teachers at ethnic minority boarding schools at the junior high school and high school levels are entitled to a reduction of 4 lessons/week. Classroom teachers at specialized schools and boarding schools are entitled to a reduction of 4 lessons/week. Classroom teachers at schools and classes for the disabled and disabled are entitled to 3 lessons/week.

2 a. Class teachers at university preparatory schools are reduced to 3 lessons/week;

3. Teachers who are also in charge of subject classrooms are entitled to a reduction of 3 lessons/subject/week.

4. Part-time teachers in charge of art and physical education work for the whole school, in charge of the school garden, school workshop, equipment room, library (if these tasks do not have a full-time staff) will be counted down from 2 - 3 lessons/week depending on workload and decided by the principal.

5. The subject leader is reduced to 3 lessons/week.

5a. The technical deputy team leader is reduced to 1 lesson/week;

5b. Teachers and heads of functional departments at university preparatory schools are reduced to 3 lessons/week;

Teachers and deputy heads of university preparatory school functions are reduced by 1 lesson/week.

According to this Article, in the case of a teacher who also works as a librarian, it will be reduced by 2-3 lessons/week depending on the workload and decided by the principal.

Can teachers hold three other positions in the school in Vietnam?

In Article 9, Regulations on working regimes for high school teachers issued together with Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, amended by Clause 9, Article 1, Circular 15/2017/TT-BGDDT, regulating the reduce the lesson quota for teachers who concurrently work for the Party, unions and other organizations in the school as follows:

1. Teachers who are also party secretaries and party cell secretaries (where party committees are not established) in grade I schools are reduced to 4 lessons/week, other grade schools are reduced to 3 lessons/week.

1a. Teachers who concurrently work for the union carry out assessment of lesson levels according to the provisions of Circular No. 08/2016/TT-BGDĐT dated March 28, 2016 of the Minister of Education and Training stipulating the reduced allowance regime. Teaching hours for teachers and lecturers who do part-time trade union work in public educational establishments under the national education system.

2. Teachers who concurrently work as union secretaries and deputy secretaries at the school level are entitled to benefits and policies as prescribed in Decision No. 13/2013/QD-TTg dated February 6, 2013 of the Prime Minister on regimes and policies for officials of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnamese Student Association in educational and vocational establishments.

3. Teachers who are also school board chairpersons and school board secretaries are entitled to 2 lessons/week reduced.

4. Teachers and heads of school people's inspection committees are entitled to a reduction of 2 lessons/week.

5. To ensure the quality of teaching and work, each teacher does not hold more than 2 concurrent positions and is entitled to a reduction in the teaching period quota of the position with the highest number of reductions.

According to the above regulations in Vietnam, teachers are not allowed to hold three other positions in the school.
