According to Clause 2 Article 40 of the Regulation on the High School Graduation Examination issued together with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT, the provisions on bonus points are as follows:

High school students, vocational school students in the category of conduct rating, vocational school students participating in combined programs with high school cultural programs according to the vocational school program at the high school level, holding a Vocational Certificate, or a Diploma of Intermediate Level issued by the Department of Education and Training, vocational training institutions, or vocational education institutions during their high school studies will receive bonus points based on the rating indicated in the Vocational Certificate or the Diploma of Intermediate Level as follows:

a) Excellent rating for Vocational Certificate, excellent and good ratings for the Diploma of Intermediate Level will receive a bonus of 2.0 points;

b) Good rating for Vocational Certificate, good and satisfactory ratings for the Diploma of Intermediate Level will receive a bonus of 1.5 points;

c) Satisfactory rating will receive a bonus of 1.0 point.

3. Vocational school students who hold foreign language or computer certificates issued according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training during their high school studies will receive a bonus of 1.0 point for each type of certificate.

4. If a candidate has multiple types of certificates that qualify for bonus points as specified in this provision, the maximum bonus points that can be awarded is 4.0 points.

5. The bonus points specified in Clauses 1, 2, and 3 of this Article are reserved for the entire educational level and added to the exam scores to determine the recognition of high school graduation for candidates.

Therefore, candidates with a vocational certificate receive the following bonus points when considering high school graduation:

- Excellent rating for Vocational Certificate: awarded 2.0 points;

- Good rating for Vocational Certificate: awarded 1.5 points;

- Satisfactory rating: awarded 1.0 point.

If a candidate has both a Vocational Certificate and a Diploma of Intermediate Level in Vietnam, will they receive bonus points for both types?

In Section 7 of the Official Dispatch 1277/BGDDT-QLCL in 2024, there are regulations regarding the recognition of high school graduation as follows:

VII. Recognition of High School Graduation

1. The provision on reserving examination scores in Article 38 of the Examination Regulation applies to candidates who participated in the High School Graduation Examination in 2023 for the recognition of high school graduation in 2024.

2. Candidates who are vocational school students and do not fall under the conduct rating category, and those who study through self-study with guidance, if considered for special consideration according to the provisions in Article 37 of the Examination Regulation, are not required to meet the conduct rating condition.

3. For candidates who meet the examination eligibility criteria but do not have an average score for the entire 12th grade as required, only the scores from the specified exams will be used to calculate the recognition of high school graduation.

4. If a candidate has both a Vocational Certificate and a Diploma of Intermediate Level, they can only use one of the two types of documents to receive bonus points. If a candidate has multiple Vocational Certificates or Diplomas of Intermediate Level according to the provisions in Clause 2 of Article 40 of the Examination Regulation, only the highest-scoring certificate/diploma will be considered for bonus points.

5. The Director of the Department of Education and Training is responsible to the Ministry of Education and Training for approving the results of the recognition of high school graduation for candidates in the local area in accordance with the Examination Regulation.

6. Before officially announcing the list of high school graduation, the units must submit data reports to the Ministry of Education and Training.

Therefore, if a candidate has both a Vocational Certificate and a Diploma of Intermediate Level, they can only use one of the two types of documents to receive bonus points.

What prize do candidates receive bonus points for when considering high school graduation recognition in 2024 in Vietnam?

In Clause 1 Article 40 of the High School Graduation Examination Regulation issued with Circular 15/2020/TT-BGDDT (amended by Article 1 and Article 2 of Circular 05/2021/TT-BGDDT), there are provisions for bonus points for the recognition of high school graduation for students participating in competitions and activities, including:

- Individual awards in the national excellent student selection exams for cultural subjects in 12th grade:

+ First, second, and third prizes in the national exam or first prize at the provincial level are awarded 2.0 points;

+ Encouragement prize in the national exam or second prize at the provincial level is awarded 1.5 points;

+ Third prize at the provincial level is awarded 1.0 point;

- Individual and team awards in various exams: experimental exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology; arts exams; sports exams; national defense sports competitions; science and technology competitions; international letter-writing competitions organized by the Education sector in coordination with specialized fields at the provincial level and above, held at the high school level.

+ For individual awards:

First, second, and third prizes in the national exam or first prize at the provincial level or Gold Medal are awarded 2.0 points;

National encouragement prize or fourth prize in the national science and technology competition or second prize at the provincial level or Silver Medal are awarded 1.5 points;

Third prize at the provincial level or Bronze Medal is awarded 1.0 point.

+ For team awards: Points are only awarded for national-level awards; the number of players, athletes, actors in the team award is determined by the specific regulations of the organizing committee for each competition.

The bonus points awarded to individuals in team awards are the same as for individual awards:

First, second, and third prizes in the national exam or first prize at the provincial level or Gold Medal are awarded 2.0 points; National encouragement prize or fourth prize in the national science and technology competition or second prize at the provincial level or Silver Medal are awarded 1.5 points; Third prize at the provincial level or Bronze Medal is awarded 1.0 point.

Students who receive multiple awards in different competitions will only receive bonus points based on the highest level of award they receive.
