Foreign Language Requirements in Doctoral Admission Examinations
According to Clauses 2 and 3, Article 7 of the Regulation on Admission and Training at the Doctoral Level issued together with Circular 18/2021/TT-BGDDT (effective from August 15, 2021), regulations on subjects and conditions for admission are stipulated as follows:
- Applicants who are Vietnamese citizens must meet the foreign language proficiency requirements evidenced by one of the following degrees or certificates:
+ A bachelor's degree or higher awarded by a foreign training institution, a branch of a foreign training institution in Vietnam, or a Vietnamese training institution to students who have entirely studied in a foreign language;
+ A bachelor's degree in a foreign language awarded by Vietnamese training institutions;
+ One of the foreign language certificates stipulated in Appendix II of this Regulation that is still valid as of the registration date or other equivalent foreign language certificates at level 4 (according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam) as announced by the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Applicants who are foreign citizens, if registering to study a doctoral program in Vietnamese, must have a Vietnamese language certificate at least at level 4 according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners and must meet the second foreign language requirements decided by the training institution, except in cases where the applicant is a native speaker of the language used in the doctoral training program.
