Do students at sports talent schools with average academic performance qualify for academic encouragement scholarships?
Subjects Eligible for Study Encouragement Scholarships
Based on Clause 1, Article 8 of Decree 84/2020/ND-CP, the subjects eligible for study encouragement scholarships are defined as follows:
- High school students in specialized upper secondary schools under higher education institutions, and students in specialized schools with good conduct and excellent academic performance during the scholarship evaluation period, who have specialized subjects' scores of 8.5 or higher in the evaluation period or have won an award from encouragement level upwards in national, regional, or international excellent student contests of that year;
- Students of schools specializing in arts, physical education, and sports with conduct performance from fairly good upwards, academic performance from average upwards during the scholarship evaluation period, and have won an award or medal in national, regional, or international competitions in that academic year;
- Students currently studying in vocational education institutions, higher education institutions with academic and training results from fairly good upwards, not subject to any disciplinary action from reprimand upwards during the scholarship evaluation period.
Therefore, if you are studying at a sports talent school with at least fairly good conduct performance, average academic performance during the scholarship evaluation period, and have won a world medal, you meet the conditions for consideration for a study encouragement scholarship.
Levels of Study Encouragement Scholarships
The levels of study encouragement scholarships are regulated in Clause 2 of this Article as follows:
- For specialized schools, schools specializing in arts, physical education, and sports: The scholarship level for a student per month is at least three times the current tuition fee of the specialized upper secondary school in the locality;
- For specialized upper secondary schools under higher education institutions: The scholarship level for a student is determined by the head of the higher education institution but not lower than the current tuition fee ceiling that the student has to pay at the school;
- For schools that do not charge tuition fees: The scholarship level is at least three times the tuition fee ceiling of the local upper secondary school.
In your case, studying at a sports talent school, the scholarship level for a student is at least three times the current tuition fee of the school.
Best regards!
