Conditions for Doctoral Training Recruitment
According to Article 7 of the Regulations on Admission and Training for Doctoral Degrees issued together with Circular 18/2021/TT-BGDDT (effective from August 15, 2021) regarding subjects and conditions for applicants, it is stipulated as follows:
- General requirements for applicants:
a) Possess a master's degree or an excellent or higher bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent level 7 qualification according to Vietnam’s National Qualifications Framework in certain specialized training fields relevant to the doctoral training discipline;
b) Meet the entry requirements as per the training program standards issued by the Ministry of Education and Training and the specific doctoral training program registered for admission;
c) Have research experience demonstrated through a master's thesis in a research-oriented training program; or published scientific articles, reports; or have worked for at least 2 years (24 months) as a lecturer or researcher at educational institutions, scientific, and technological organizations;
d) Have a draft research outline and a projected study and research plan for the entire course.
- Applicants who are Vietnamese citizens must meet the foreign language proficiency requirements evidenced by one of the following diplomas or certificates:
a) A bachelor's degree or higher awarded by a foreign educational institution, a branch of a foreign educational institution in Vietnam, or a Vietnamese institution teaching full-time in a foreign language;
b) A bachelor's degree in a foreign language awarded by Vietnamese educational institutions;
c) One of the foreign language certificates stipulated in Appendix II of this Regulation still valid at the application date or equivalent certificates at level 4 (according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam) published by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Foreign applicants who register for a doctoral training program conducted in Vietnamese must have a Vietnamese language certificate of at least level 4 according to the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for Foreigners and must meet the second foreign language requirements as determined by the educational institution, except in cases where the applicant is a native speaker of the language used in the doctoral training program.
The regulations of the educational institution shall detail the requirements for relevant professional qualifications, foreign language proficiency, work experience, and other requirements for applicants, depending on the characteristics of each field, training discipline, and specific training program of the institution based on the minimum requirements stipulated in this Article.
