Chronic Asthma: Is Exemption from Physical Education Possible?
According to Clause 1, Article 12 of the Regulations on Assessment and Classification of Lower and Upper Secondary School Students, issued together with Circular 58/2011/TT-BGDDT, the cases eligible for exemption from Physical Education classes are stipulated as follows:
Students are exempt from Physical Education, Music, and Fine Arts classes in the education program if they encounter difficulties in learning any subject due to chronic illness, disabilities, accidents, or illnesses requiring long-term treatment.
Therefore, your child with chronic asthma is eligible for exemption from Physical Education classes.
You should prepare the following documentation to apply for exemption from Physical Education classes and submit it to the Principal of the school your child is attending:
- Application for exemption from Physical Education classes by the student;
- Medical records or disability certificates issued by a hospital at the district level or higher.
The principal shall permit the student to be exempt from Physical Education classes for one semester or the entire academic year. If exempted for the entire academic year, this subject will not be included in the evaluation and classification of academic performance for the semester and the entire year; if exempted for only one semester, the evaluation and classification results of the studied semester will be used to assess and classify the entire academic year.
Sincerely!
