Based on Article 13 of the Regulation on enrollment for lower and upper secondary school issued along with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT stipulating the organization of entrance exams:

Article 13. Organization of Entrance Exams

  1. Examination review

a) The review of examination papers must ensure the safety and confidentiality of the examination papers at all stages: withdrawing examination papers, handing over papers, preserving papers, and scoring reviewed papers; the review scoring process follows the exam scoring process.

b) The composition, responsibilities, and authorities of the Examination Review Council are as stipulated for the Exam Scoring Council stated in clause 4 of this Article. The examiners in the Examination Review Council must not overlap with those in the Exam Scoring Council.

  1. The admission score for grade 10 in upper secondary school is the total score of the subjects, calculated on a scale of 10 (ten) for each subject. The announcement of the benchmark score is made concurrently with the publication of exam scores.

  2. The Department of Education and Training, based on the provisions of this Regulation, provides specifics on test creation, administration, scoring, and exam review suitable to actual conditions. upper secondary schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, university-affiliated institutes that organize independent exams must follow the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training or as regulated by the Department of Education and Training where the school is located.

The entrance exam score for grade 10 for the academic year 2024 - 2025 is calculated based on the total score of the subjects tested, using a scale of 10 (ten) for each subject. The benchmark score announcement occurs simultaneously with the exam score publication.

Who are included in group 1 for prioritized admission points to Grade 10 in Vietnam?

Pursuant to clause 2 of Article 14 of the Regulation on enrollment for lower and upper secondary school issued along with Circular 30/2024/TT-BGDDT stipulating direct admission, policies prioritizing upper secondary school admissions:

Article 14. Direct Admission, Priority Admissions Policies for Upper Secondary Schools

  1. Subjects eligible for priority points

Priority points are added to the total admissions score calculated on a scale of 10 (ten) for each subject. In it, group 1: an additional 2.0 points; group 2: an additional 1.5 points; group 3: an additional 1.0 points.

a) Group 1 subjects:

- Children of martyrs;

- Children of wounded soldiers with a work capacity decrease of 81% or more;

- Children of sick soldiers with a work capacity decrease of 81% or more;

- Children of individuals awarded a “Certificate of policy beneficiaries equivalent to wounded soldiers with work capacity decrease of 81% or more”;

- Children of individuals involved in resistance activities exposed to chemical toxins;

- Children of individuals involved in revolutionary activities before January 1, 1945;

- Children of individuals involved in revolutionary activities from January 1, 1945, to the August 1945 uprising.

b) Group 2 subjects:

- Children of Heroes of the Armed Forces, children of Labor Heroes, children of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers;

- Children of wounded soldiers with a work capacity decrease of less than 81%;

- Children of sick soldiers with a work capacity decrease of less than 81%;

- Children of individuals awarded a “Certificate of policy beneficiaries equivalent to wounded soldiers with work capacity decrease of less than 81%”.

c) Group 3 subjects:

- People with a parent who is an ethnic minority;

- Ethnic minorities;

- Students in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions.

How long is high school education in Vietnam conducted?

According to Article 28 of the Education Law 2019 regulating grade and age levels in general education:

Article 28. Grade and age levels in general education

  1. The grades and age levels of general education are regulated as follows:

a) Primary education is conducted over 5 school years, from first grade to the end of fifth grade. Students entering first grade are 6 years old, calculated by year;

b) Lower secondary education is conducted over 4 school years, from sixth grade to the end of ninth grade. Students entering sixth grade must have completed primary education. The age of students entering sixth grade is 11 years, calculated by year;

c) Upper secondary education is conducted over 3 school years, from tenth grade to the end of twelfth grade. Students entering tenth grade must have a secondary school graduation certificate. The age of students entering tenth grade is 15 years, calculated by year.
