Can a Student Temporarily Withdraw from Studies if She Becomes Pregnant in the First Semester of the First Year?
Based on Clause 1, Article 15 of the Undergraduate Training Regulation issued together with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated as follows:
- Students may apply for temporary leave of absence and retain their academic results in the following cases:
a) Called to join the armed forces;
b) Assigned by a competent authority to represent the country in international competitions or tournaments;
c) Illness, maternity, or an accident requiring long-term treatment, certified by an authorized medical facility according to the provisions of the Ministry of Health;
d) Other personal reasons, provided that the student has completed at least one academic semester at the training institution and is not under review for expulsion or disciplinary action.
...
Thus, in the case of a pregnant student, they may apply for a temporary leave of absence at any time, without necessarily having to complete at least one semester as required for other personal reasons. Therefore, a student who discovers they are pregnant during the first semester of their freshman year may apply for leave immediately if they wish.
Best regards!
