Can a 17-year-old repeat 7th grade?
According to Clause 2, Article 4 of Decision 51/2002/QD-BGDDT stipulates: Students applying to return to school after a period of absence but still within the age limits specified for each educational level.
On the other hand, Article 37 of the Regulations for middle schools, high schools, and schools with multiple levels issued with Circular 12/2011/TT-BGDDT stipulates the ages as follows:
The age of students entering grade 6 is 11 years old. The age of students entering grade 10 is 15 years old.
For students who have skipped a grade in the previous educational level or students entering at an age higher than the specified age, the age for entering grades 6 and 10 is adjusted up or down based on the age at the time of graduation from the previous educational level.
Students who are ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, students in especially difficult circumstances, and students returning to Vietnam from abroad can enter the education level at an age up to 3 years older than the specified age.
=> Therefore, you must complete the secondary education program by the age of 14 if you are an ethnic minority, a student with disabilities, a student in especially difficult circumstances, or a student returning to Vietnam from abroad. The age to finish the secondary education program (middle school) is 17 years old for such cases.
According to the information you provided, you are currently 17 years old and wish to repeat grade 7. Under the above regulations, you are not eligible to repeat the class. In this case, you can attend supplementary education at continuing education schools.
Respectfully!
