Assignment of Permanent Teachers to Teach Mathematics and Chemistry: Is It Permissible?
According to Clause 1 Article 19 of the Charter of Secondary Schools, General Education Schools, and Schools with Multiple Education Levels issued with Circular 12/2011/TT-BGDDT, the duties of the Principal are specified as follows:
...
- Establishing subject groups, administrative groups, and advisory councils in the school; appointing group leaders and deputy leaders; proposing members of the School Council for decision by the competent authority;
- Managing teachers and staff; overseeing professional activities; assigning tasks, inspecting, evaluating the classification of teachers and staff; performing reward and disciplinary actions for teachers and staff; executing the recruitment of teachers and staff; signing labor contracts; receiving, transferring teachers and staff as prescribed by the State;
...
Thus, the Principal, based on the professional qualifications of the teachers and the actual conditions of the school, will assign the specific duties to the teachers. Therefore, the assignment for you to be responsible for 2 math classes and concurrently teaching chemistry may be appropriate if it ensures your teaching hours within a week.
Pursuant to Article 6 of Circular 28/2009/TT-BGDDT, the teaching hour norms for secondary school teachers are as follows:
- Secondary school teachers: 19 periods;
- At ethnic boarding schools: 17 periods at the secondary level;
- At semi-boarding ethnic schools: 17 periods at the secondary level;
- At schools and classes for disabled, handicapped individuals: 17 periods for secondary level teachers.
Sincerely!
