Is it necessary to submit an application for a lawyer practice certificate immediately after passing the lawyer apprenticeship exam?
Based on the Law on Lawyers 2006 and the amended Law on Lawyers 2012, there is no provision regarding the deadline for submitting the application for a lawyer's practicing certificate after passing the trainee lawyer examination. Therefore, you can still submit your application for the lawyer's practicing certificate at this current time.
Pursuant to Clause 1, Article 17 of the Law on Lawyers 2006 as amended by Clause 8, Article 1 of the amended Law on Lawyers 2012, which stipulates the application for a Lawyer Practicing Certificate of those who have passed the trainee lawyer examination, you will submit the application to the Executive Committee of the Bar Association. The application comprises the following documents:
- Application form for the Lawyer Practicing Certificate as prescribed by the Ministry of Justice;
- Judicial record card;
- Health certificate;
- Copies of the Bachelor of Law degree or Master of Law degree;
- Copy of the result verification certificate of the trainee lawyer examination.
Within seven working days from the date of receipt of a complete and valid application, the Executive Committee of the Bar Association will forward the application to the Department of Justice along with a confirmation that the applicant meets the lawyer standards.
