What types of allowances and benefits in Vietnam are national defense workers entitled to?
Pursuant to Clause 2, Article 3, Decree 19/2017/ND-CP stipulates that national defense workers are entitled to the following types of allowances and benefits:
2. National defense workers are entitled to various allowances and benefits including:
a) Excess seniority allowance;
b) Regional allowance;
c) Special allowance;
d) Toxic and dangerous allowance;
d) Work responsibility allowance;
Conditions, time and benefit levels of allowances at Points a, b, c, d, dd of this Clause are implemented as prescribed in Decree No. 204/2004/ND-CP dated December 14, 2004 of the Government on salary regimes for cadres, civil servants, public employees and the armed forces.
e) Official duty allowance:
- Applicable to national defense workers receiving salaries from the state budget;
- Conditions, time and level of official duty allowances are implemented as prescribed in Decree No. 34/2012/ND-CP dated April 15, 2012 of the Government on civil service allowances.
g) Allowances and benefits for working in areas with extremely difficult socio-economic conditions:
Conditions, time and benefit levels are implemented as prescribed in Decree No. 116/2010/ND-CP dated December 24, 2010 of the Government on policies for cadres, civil servants, public employees and salary earners in the armed forces working in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions.
Thus, when you work as a national defense worker, in addition to receiving a salary according to regulations in Vietnam, you will also receive the allowances and benefits specified above if you meet the prescribed conditions.

How many months ahead of schedule can national defense workers have their salaries increased in Vietnam?
According to Clause 3, Article 3, Decree 19/2017/ND-CP stipulates salary and categories increase for national defense workers as follows:
3. Salary and categories increase for national defense workers
a) Salary increase:
After 2 years (full 24 months) keep the salary level for people with a salary coefficient of 3.95 or less and after 3 years (full 36 months) keep the salary level for people with a salary coefficient above 3.95, always complete assigned work, do not violate discipline from reprimand or higher and meet prescribed technical level standards, they will be considered for an increase in salary level.
During the time limit for considering a salary increase, if they are disciplined in the form of a reprimand, the salary increase period will be extended by 6 months; If they are disciplined in the form of a warning or higher, the salary increase period will be extended for 12 months.
In case of achieving particularly excellent achievements in performing tasks, the salary level will be increased ahead of time up to 12 months or more.
b) Categories increase:
If national defense workers fulfill or excellently complete assigned responsibilities and tasks, have good political and moral qualities, and are capable of holding higher job positions in the same industry or technical profession, and have appropriate qualifications, they will be considered or tested for promotion.
According to this Article, if they successfully complete their tasks, national defense workers will receive a salary increase ahead of time up to 12 months or more in Vietnam.
