What is the Security Industry?
On November 20, 2018, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Session XIV, during its 6th session, passed the Law on People’s Public Security No. 37/2018/QH14 (abbreviated as the 2018 People's Public Security Law).
The 2018 People's Public Security Law stipulates the principles of organization, operation; position, functions, tasks, powers; ensures operational conditions, policies for the People’s Public Security; responsibility of related agencies, organizations, individuals.
According to the provisions in Article 34 of the 2018 People's Public Security Law (effective from July 1, 2019), the security industry is a part of the national defense and security industry, serving the protection of national security, ensuring social order and safety, combating crime, legal violations, and building the People’s Public Security.
The State has specific policies and mechanisms to build and plan the development of the security industry; investment in research, production, repair of weapons, explosives, support tools, equipment, operational technical means, and other means serving the tasks of protecting national security, ensuring social order and safety, combating crime and legal violations.
The Ministry of Public Security is responsible to the Government of Vietnam for presiding over, and cooperating with, related ministries, agencies, organizations in building and developing the security industry.
