What is calculation of probation salary of preschool teachers in Vietnam?

In Clause 1, Clause 2, Article 23 of Decree 115/2020/ND-CP on regimes and policies for probationers and probationer instructors, specifically as follows:

1. During the probationary period, the probationer is entitled to 85% of the level 1 salary of the employed professional title. In case the probationer has a master's degree in accordance with the requirements of the job position, the probationer will receive 85% of the level 2 salary of the recruited professional title; In case the probationer has a doctoral degree in accordance with the requirements of the job position, the probationer will receive 85% of the level 3 salary of the recruited professional title. Allowances are provided according to the provisions of law.

2. Probationes are entitled to 100% of the salary and allowances of the professional title corresponding to the training level specified in Clause 1 of this Article in the following cases:

a) Working in areas with extremely difficult socio-economic conditions;

b) Working in toxic and dangerous industries and occupations;

c) Complete military service; obligation to participate in the people's police; Military officers, police officers, serving professional soldiers, people doing cipher work changing majors, graduates of reserve officer training, graduates of training for commanders of military command of grassroots military communes are awarded the rank of reserve officers who have registered for the rank of reserve officers, members of youth volunteer teams, and members of young intellectuals who volunteer to participate in rural and mountainous development for 24 months or more have completed the task.

According to this Article, compared with the above regulations, the probationary salary of preschool teachers without master's or doctorate degrees and in areas with stable economic conditions will be 85% of the level 1 salary of the professional title.

How long is probation period for a preschool teacher in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Clause 2, Article 21 of Decree 115/2020/ND-CP on the probation period is prescribed as follows:

a) 12 months in case of recruitment to a professional position that requires university education standards particularly for the professional title of doctor, it is 9 months;

b) 09 months in case of recruitment to a professional position that requires college training standards;

c) 06 months in case of recruitment to a professional position that requires intermediate training standards.

d) Time off for maternity leave according to the social insurance regime, time off sick leave of 14 days or more, time off without pay, time in detention, temporary detention, temporary suspension from work according to regulations of the law does not count toward the probationary period.

In case the probationer takes sick leave or has a legitimate reason for less than 14 days and is approved by the head of the public service unit where the person is recruited as a civil servant who is implementing the probationary regime, this time will be counted towards the probationary period.

In addition, Clause 1, Article 72 of the Education Law 2019 on standardized educational qualifications of teachers is as follows:

1. Standardized educational qualifications of teachers are regulated as follows:

a) Teachers of preschool education teachers must possess at least a pedagogical college diploma;

b) Teachers of primary education, lower secondary education and upper secondary education must possess at least a bachelor’s degree in pedagogy training.

In case a subject is yet to acquire enough teachers with bachelor’s degree in pedagogy training, teachers of this subject must possess a bachelor's degree of suitable specialization and a certificate of pedagogy training;

c) Lecturers of higher education must possess a master’s degree; lecturers teaching or instructing master or doctor’s theses must possess a doctoral degree.

b) Standardized educational qualifications of teachers working in institutions of vocational education shall follow regulations in the Law on Vocational education.

Thus, based on the above regulations in Vietnam, a preschool teacher with a college level will have to practice for 9 months and with a university degree it will be 12 months.
