Based on Clause 5, Article 2 of the Law on Management and Use of Weapons, Explosive Materials and Support Instruments 2024, it is stipulated as follows:

In this Law, the terms below are understood as follows:

5. sporting weapons include:
a) Air rifles, explosive bullet rifles, air pistols, explosive bullet pistols, paint bullet sports guns, clay pigeon guns, ammunition used for these types of guns listed by the Minister of Public Security for training and sports competition;
b) Weapons specified at point a, clause 4 of this Article used for training and sports competition;
c) Basic components of the guns specified in point a of this clause include: gun body, barrel, trigger mechanism, bolt, firing pin.

Thus, sporting weapons include the following:
[1] Air rifles, explosive bullet rifles, air pistols, explosive bullet pistols, paint bullet sports guns, clay pigeon guns, ammunition used for these types of guns listed by the Minister of Public Security for training and sports competition
[2] Swords, spears, halberds, lances, daggers, bayonets, sabers, machetes, clubs, knuckle dusters, maces, bows, crossbows, throwing stars listed by the Minister of Public Security for training and sports competition
[3] Basic components of air rifles, explosive bullet rifles, air pistols, explosive bullet pistols, paint bullet sports guns, clay pigeon guns include: gun body, barrel, trigger mechanism, bolt, firing pin.

Who is equipped with sporting weapons in Vietnam?
Based on Article 24 of the Law on Management and Use of Weapons, Explosive Materials and Support Instruments 2024, the subjects equipped with sporting weapons in Vietnam are regulated as follows:
Subjects equipped with sporting weapons
1. Subjects equipped with sporting weapons include:
a) People's Army;
b) Self-Defense Militia;
c) Coast Guard;
d) People's Police;
dd) Clubs, training and sports facilities with operational licenses;
e) National Defense and Security Education Centers;
g) Other agencies, organizations, enterprises established and licensed for training and sports competition.
2. The Minister of Public Security, based on the nature, requirements, and tasks, specifies the equipping of sporting weapons for subjects not under the management of the Ministry of Defense after consultation with the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
3. The Minister of Defense, based on the nature, requirements, and tasks, specifies the equipping of sporting weapons for subjects under the People's Army, Self-Defense Militia, Coast Guard, clubs, training and sports facilities, National Defense and Security Education Centers under the management of the Ministry of Defense.
Thus, the subjects equipped with sporting weaponsin Vietnam include:

- Coast Guard
- People's Police
- Clubs, training and sports facilities with operational licenses
- National Defense and Security Education Centers

Is a permit required for transporting sporting weapons in Vietnam?
Based on Article 29 of the Law on Management and Use of Weapons, Explosive Materials and Support Instruments 2024, the transportation of military weapons and sporting weapons is regulated as follows:
Transportation of military weapons, sporting weapons
1. The transportation of military weapons, sporting weapons shall be carried out as follows:
a) Must have a permit or transportation order from a competent authority or individual;
b) Ensure confidentiality and safety;
c) The transportation of dangerous military weapons, sporting weapons must use specialized vehicles and ensure safety, fire prevention, and fighting;
d) Military weapons, sporting weapons, and people are not allowed to be transported on the same vehicle, except for the vehicle operator and the escort;
dd) Do not stop or park vehicles transporting military weapons, sporting weapons in crowded places, residential areas, gasoline stations, areas of important national defense, security, economic, cultural, and diplomatic works. In case of needing to stay overnight or due to incidents without sufficient security forces, the vehicle operator and the escort must immediately notify the nearest military or police agency for coordinated protection, if necessary.

According to the above regulations in Vietnam, the transportation of military weapons and sporting weapons must have a permit or transportation order from a competent authority or individual. Thus, the transportation of sporting weapons requires a permit.
