According to Article 2 of Resolution 1156/2016/UBTVQH13, the duties and powers of the People's Petitions Committee in Vietnam are as follows:

[1] Assist the Standing Committee of the National Assembly in organizing the reception of citizens by the National Assembly agencies and Members of the National Assembly in accordance with the law on reception of citizens.

[2] Assist the Standing Committee of the National Assembly in organizing the reception of petitions, complaints, denunciations, suggestions, and reflections from citizens sent to the National Assembly, the President of the National Assembly, the Vice Presidents of the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the Secretary General of the National Assembly, the Office of the National Assembly, and the People's Petitions Committee for study; when necessary, transfer the petitions to the competent authorities for resolution and follow up and urge the resolution and response to citizens.

Summarize, classify, and transfer the opinions and suggestions of voters to the competent authorities for resolution.

[3] Assist the Standing Committee of the National Assembly to cooperate with the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to build a summary report of the opinions and suggestions of voters to report at the National Assembly session.

[4] Assist the Standing Committee of the National Assembly in monitoring and urging the competent authorities in the resolution and response to the suggestions of voters. The Chairman of the People's Petitions Committee is responsible to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for the organization and operation of the People's Petitions Committee. The Chairman of the People's Petitions Committee has the following duties and powers:

- Organize, manage, and direct the activities of the People's Petitions Committee in accordance with its duties and powers.

- Be subject to the leadership and direction of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the President of the National Assembly, and the Vice Presidents of the National Assembly; maintain relations with the Standing Committee of the Ethnic Council, the Standing Committees of the National Assembly, the Secretary General of the National Assembly, the agencies of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the Office of the National Assembly, the Delegations of the National Assembly, Members of the National Assembly, and relevant agencies and organizations in the implementation of the duties and powers of the People's Petitions Committee.

- Cooperate with the Secretary General of the National Assembly in the recruitment, use, management, appointment, dismissal, transfer, and removal of civil servants of the Office of Citizen Petitions.

- Organize the implementation of the foreign affairs and international cooperation work of the People's Petitions Committee.

- Decide on the use of the budget allocated to the People's Petitions Committee.
