What are drafting requirements for military service in Vietnam in 2024?

Pursuant to Article 4 of the Circular 148/2018/TT-BQP stipulating drafting requirements for military service in Vietnam in 2024 as follows:

1. Age:

- Citizens from the age of 18 to under 26.

- Graduate male citizen who enters university or college and postpones conscription for a training course of a level will be drafted until he turns 28.

2. Political requirements:

- Comply with Joint Circular 50/2016/TTLT-BQP-BCA.

- Drafting for crucial and classified agencies, units and positions in the Army; ceremonial battalion; professional National Guards and Military shall comply with regulations and law of the Ministry of National Defense.

3. Health requirements:

- Draft citizens with health type 1, 2, 3 as specified in Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP.

- Drafting for agencies, units and positions of the agencies, units, and critical and secret positions in the Army; the ceremonial guard force; the guard and professional military control force must ensure separate standards as regulated by the Ministry of National Defense.

- Do not conscript citizens with health type 3 and eye disorders (1.5 dioptre myopia or higher, hypermetropia at all degrees); drug addicts, those contracted with HIV, AIDS.

4. Cultural requirements:

- Draft citizens who finished 8th grade or higher in descending order.

In areas where the drafting quota cannot be guaranteed due to hardship, request the competent authorities to consider and decide to draft citizens who finished 7th grade.

- Communes in remote and isolated areas, in areas with economic - social hardships according to regulations and law; ethnic minorities below 10,000 people shall draft no more than 25% of the citizens who finished primary education and the citizens who finished lower secondary education are drafted to fill the rest.

Pursuant to Article 2 of the Circular 148/2018/TT-BQP stipulating drafting principles and requirements for military service in Vietnam as follows:

- Follow the guidelines and principles of the Communist Party, policies and law of the State and procedures, regulations on drafting.

- Ensure drafting adequacy and quality, recruit following top-down selection procedure; assure democracy, equality, openness, security and cost efficiency.

- Emphasize the responsibilities of every organization and individual to improve the effectiveness of the drafting.

- Focus on drafting graduates, ethnics to improve the quality of the regular armed force and reserve force, which form the constructive fundamentals to enforce the local political facilities, to strengthen national defense and security, and to protect the Socialist of Vietnam Fatherland.

3. Health check procedure

a) Based on the training plan for reserve soldiers of the local military, compile a list of subjects summoned to participate in reserve mobilization training in the area under their management;

b) Notify the time and place of health check;

c) Prepare a military service health check form according to Appendix 4, Form 1 attached to this Circular;

d) Organize health check according to the contents specified in Clause 2 of this Article;

dd) Compile, summarize, and report the health check results according to Appendix 5, Forms 1a and 5a attached to this Circular.

Therefore, when undergoing military service health check, the following contents will be checked:

- Physical examination

- Taking pulse and blood pressure

- Detection of diseases in internal medicine, surgery and specialty

- Exploration of personal and family medical history
