What are archives in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Subsection 1 Section 0808 Part 08 Appendix II issued together with the Circular 9/2022/TT-BNV stipulating the concept and calculation method as follows:
Concepts and methods of calculation
Archives are valuable documents for practical activities, scientific research, and history selected for archiving.
Archives include originals and originals; in case the original is no longer available, the original shall be replaced with a lawful copy.
Archives have the following types: Paper documents; film documents, photos; recording material; video recording material; electronic documents and other documents.
Calculation method: Number of archival documents is the number of archival materials calculated in units of each type of archive at archival organizations up to December 31 of the reporting year. Archives are managed according to archival fonts/archive collections/ works and are classified according to specific types:
- Number of paper archival documents is the total number of records/preserving unit (equivalent of storage units) which is converted into the number of meters of document prices;
- Number of map documents is the total number of maps (The map is a paper document but preserved by its own method);
- Number of recording materials is the total number of rolls, tapes and discs which are converted into hours of listening;
- Number of video recordings is the total number of film reels, video tapes and discs, which are converted to show hours;
- Number of photo documents is the total number of photos;
- The number of electronic documents is the Megabye number (MB) of the document;
- Other documents.

1. Concept, calculation method
Collected archival materials are valuable documents in accordance with archival law, selected for submission to archival organizations.
Calculation method:
- Number of archival documents collected from January 1 to December 31 of the reporting year;
- Number of archival documents that are due for collection but have not been collected as of December 31 of the reporting year.
The data is calculated according to the units of each type of archival documents specified in the statistical indicator on the number of archives (0809).
