How to Fill Out the Application for Issuance of Marital Status Confirmation Certificate 2024?
In the Appendix issued with Circular 04/2024/TT-BTP, the guidelines for filling out the marital status confirmation certificate are as follows:
Section (1) Clearly state the name of the agency issuing the Marital Status Confirmation Certificate.
Section (2) Only fill this out if the applicant does not have/do not provide a personal identification number/citizen identification card/identity card/identification card.
In case information on "Residence" must be provided, record it according to the permanent residence registration; if there is no permanent residence registration, record it according to the temporary residence registration; if there is no permanent or temporary residence registration, record it according to the current place of residence.
Section (3) Enter the personal identification number/citizen identification card/identification card (e.g., Citizen Identification Card No. 025188001010 issued by the Department of Police Administration on Social Order on November 20, 2021). If there is no personal identification number/citizen identification card/identification card, record alternative valid documents (passport, identity card, etc.).
Section (4) Only fill this out if the individual does not have/do not provide a personal identification number/citizen identification card/identity card/identification card.
If information must be provided, record it as follows:
- If never married, clearly state not currently married to anyone.- If currently married, clearly state currently married to Mrs./Mr.… (Marriage certificate number…, issued by… on Month…day…, Year…).- If cohabitating as husband and wife before January 03, 1987, and not divorced or if the spouse has not died or been declared dead, clearly state currently living with Mrs./Mr.….- If married or cohabitating as husband and wife before January 03, 1987, but already divorced and not remarried, clearly state had been married or cohabitating, but divorced according to Divorce Verdict/Decision No… on Month…day…, Year… of the People’s Court…; currently not married to anyone.- If married or cohabitating as husband and wife before January 03, 1987, but the spouse has died and not remarried, clearly state had been married or cohabitating but the spouse has died (Death Certificate/Death Extract/Judgment No:… issued by… on Month…day…, Year…); currently not married to anyone.- If a currently married person requests marital status confirmation for the period before marriage registration, clearly state not married to anyone from Month… day…, Year… to Month… day…, Year…; currently married to Mrs./Mr. … (Marriage certificate number…, issued by… on Month… day…, Year…).- For Vietnamese citizens residing abroad requesting marital status confirmation for the period residing in Vietnam before departure; individuals who have resided in various places may request confirmation of their marital status in previous places of residence, declaring their marital status for the time period resided there (e.g., not married to anyone during residence at…, from Month…day…, Year… to Month…day…, Year…).- For Vietnamese citizens residing abroad requesting marital status confirmation during their period of residence abroad, declare their marital status for the time resided in that country (e.g., during residence in the Federal Republic of Germany from Month…day…, Year… to Month… day…, Year…, not married to anyone at the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany).
Section (5) Clearly state the purpose of using the Marital Status Confirmation Certificate. If the Marital Status Confirmation Certificate is used for marriage purposes, clearly state marrying whom (full name, day, month, year of birth; nationality; identification documents; residence); the intended place of marriage registration.

Validity of the Marital Status Confirmation Certificate
According to Article 23 of Decree 123/2015/ND-CP, the validity period of the Marital Status Confirmation Certificate is as follows:
Validity of the Marital Status Confirmation Certificate
The Marital Status Confirmation Certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of issuance.
The Marital Status Confirmation Certificate can be used for registering marriage at a competent Vietnamese authority, registering marriage at a competent foreign authority abroad, or for other purposes.
The Marital Status Confirmation Certificate is not valid for purposes other than those stated in the Certificate.
Therefore, the Marital Status Confirmation Certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of issuance or until the marital status changes (according to Clause 2, Article 12 of Circular 04/2020/TT-BTP).
